I guess the really popular shounen jump shows;

Alot of people senslessly say they are shit, But I believe that the reason for this to be the fan bases for those particular shows tend to be among the worst in the anime community.

I used to fucking HATE naruto and one piece, but watched a bit of the show and found it somewhat enjoyable, definitely not as bad as I thought they would be (while I dropped them after 20 episodes, I had a better impression of them than I did before watching).

I realized the reason I kept calling them shit, was that the fanbases were so cancerous and annoying that I ended up thinking the shows were shit by correlation.

While the shows are definitelly not what I would consider high quality entertainment, they are far from the generalized "shit" rating many "supah elite anime watchers" give them.

Oh, and you, of course, would be the EXPERT on detailed, carefully researched and exhaustively illustrated salon discussion posts...

But anyway, yeah, one does. Probably got the idea from the resurrected "Most Overrated Anime" thread, when everyone came to the defense of Sword Art Online.
(Hey, if it had that good an opening episode, that's more than most series ever achieve...)

I only enjoy One Piece but stopped enjoying Naruto because it was too boring for me. Half of the fanbase are annoying but what can you do.

I was told Naruto was amazing.... I was lied to. Naruto is one of the worst I've ever seen.

I don't find Sword Art Online as bad as some people make out, though I think that's just a side effect of it being popular. As there as those who will praise it to high heaven, there are those who will make out it is the anti-christ of anime. I have a lot of problems with the show, but I've seen far worse. If nothing else I was entertained for the first half of the first season, and that's more than I can say for some shows that I've seen. I'd post a picture, but would it even be necessary? Even people who don't frequently watch anime know what Sword Art Online is.

As for one that's not as good as some make it out to be? I'm going to go with Madoka Magica. It's not a bad show, I enjoyed it enough to watch it to the end and I also watched the last film that came out, but I wasn't blown away or anything. I like the aesthetic choices of the demon worlds, and the animation in general was pretty all right, but I didn't see it as some sort of jaw-dropping masterpiece that I'd urge anyone go out of their way to see, especially not since by now the fact that it takes a dark turn isn't really even a spoiler anymore. Not that calling something 'entertainment' is inherently devaluing of anything, that's all it was to me in the end: entertaining. Not some eye-opening experience or a 'tour de force' of anime history.

Well lets get the obvious out of the way.

Sword Art Online was okay at the first half of season one and horrible for the second of half of season one. It failed to meet expectations, but the other high school, harem, battle/magic, and romantic comedies that come from light novel hell are worse. (We had three this season!)
Gun Gale did not amaze and it dragged a little, but it was not too awful. The main problem was showing Sinon as a kind of confident character, but then weakening her with her back story and her design. Gun Gale also brought another rapist which was completely unnecessary. I failed to finish Mother's Rosario, because it was boring; sorry Yuki lovers.

One Punch Man was not as strong in the story department as its animation department, but it was good. Not as amazing as the people who sing its praises tell it, but definitely not deserving of all the hatred it gets from people who complain, because it's popular.

My personal favorite to pick on is Mahouka.

Mahouka, a.k.a the Shiba Tatsuya show, was worse than everyone made it out to be and it became unexpectedly hilarious when Tatsuya became Jesus towards the end. The light novel was not much better no matter what the fans say; Madhouse did their best but salvaging the show was impossible.

One Punch Man - The comedy just doesn't do it for me. Though it is a spectacle and deffinitely deserves praise for animation.
Coincidentally, this is the face I make when I see any joke or "funny face" in One Punch Man:

School Day's isn't as bad as people make it out. It's an interesting subversion but accurate representation of the harem genre. Considering how cookie cutter the genre is a few more anime willing to take more risks like School Days wouldn't be too bad in my opinion.

I agree with this.

Everything is someone's favorite. Everything is also hated by someone as well. Since it's all subjective, nothing is really as good or as bad as anyone thinks. But that's just how I personally look at it.

But for a concrete example, I'll say K-On!. The beauty of this is it works both ways. It's not the unholy scourge of anime some make it out to be, but is actually quite charming and emotional at times. Plus it's filled with lighthearted fun and lovable characters. Doesn't deserve all the hate it gets!

Conversely, it's the scourge of anime. Nothing but plotless pandering with boring stories about one-dimensional moeblobs drinking tea. Doesn't deserve all the love it gets!
