It sounds like you've just grown out of it, which is bound to happen with most people since shonen and shoujo follows the same tropes. Seinen sounds like it would be good for what you want, because there are so many writers in the genre that don't give two shits about their characters being pure or noble.

Some of my recommendations: Gantz, Hellsing Ultimate, Elfen Lied, Vagabond (manga)

If you want a break from bloodlust, you can try some ecchi or josei.

I am no sure about ecchi thou. I seen a lot of ecchi having deads too lately compared to years ago.

i think people might be misunderstanding my post. im perfectly familiar with genres and how to find the anime im looking for im just more complaining about how how most of the anime that exists is this cheesy garbage anime. Im trying to say that there is way too much of this anime it seems like it fills 95% of the market. leaving all of the other genres in the 5%. i made those numbers up obviously and im sure there exagerated but thats what it feels like

I don't think you know what you're talking about. I don't think most anime are even in the action genre, much less anime in the action genre that uphold the sorts of ideals you're complaining about. Sounds like you're saying you are tired of shounen. If you are really so eager to watch people die go watch corpse party or higurashi.

Its not that im necessarily blood thirsty its just that i hate cencorship i feel like the writers are altering the story to make it more appealing to a larger audience sacrificing the true vision of what the show should be to make more money. this heavily alters the story many times they even have to set up a bunch of events so they can make a loop hole death work completely altering everything so every time i see this that is why it makes me upset. im not asking for a slaughter fest im just asking that they dont go out of there way to make a character more likable to appeal to a larger demographic.

Censorship? Umm, that no it. That just how it is. Is about the genre you are watching. Anime tends to keep with his genre regardless of anything. Seinen is the best course of action for what you want really.

I understand what you mean by the overly innocent/nice/good characters. I got tired of that once upon a time and started watching other stuff. I also tried out a few random anime that I never would have before. You should try Hamatora. It's really good. It has action, killing, and characters that jump back and forth between good and evil. (Well, I liked it at least)

KarenAraragi is right. They are not sacrificing the story. They just like those types of ideals and morals and that is why it is shounen in the first place. You do realize shounen (younger males/boy) is just a demographic, right? Seinen is older males (about 16-30s) and will probably have more shows much closer to what you are looking for. Just look up "best action seinen anime" or something to get yourself started.

i guess you are right i should just accept what shonen is and stop wishing it would change. i just dont like how it takes up so much of the market. i just dont like how there seems to be less and less "good" anime and everywhere i look there is shonen.

Here I going to give you a shoune that you may hate or like.
Gintama. Long running series and some bad guys get save and others die. Some bad guys die but get redeem while others do not.
Is manly comedy and many things more too.
But generally is funny.

And then shit hit the fan.

Trust me on this. When Gintama decide to get dark. It goes all out on it.

TALK NO KILL - this is when the MC decides not to kill his enemy but to talk to him and try to have him change his ways instead.

SPARING - when the MC spares his enemies.

and worst of all

CLEAN HANDS - when the writers of the show decide from the very beginning that there main character will never kill anyone no matter what.

The main character in Akame ga Kill pretty much goes against all 3 of those in the very first episode. The story is about a group of assassins, after all. It'd be hard to have the main character going around sparing enemies and keeping his hands clean. Great music in this series, too. It's here on Crunchyroll.

BTOOOM has a main character that would like to keep his hands clean, but is constantly in a kill or be killed situation. Also available here on Crunchyroll.

Death Note is a pretty crazy ride following a main character that's pretty much the opposite of most people's idea of a protagonist. Unfortunately, the anime is not on Crunchyroll, but it was recently added to Netflix.

Black Lagoon is a story about a guy that is trying to keep his hands clean and avoid killing, but he's surrounded by murderers, drug lords, crime bosses, you name it. It's pretty much a bunch of 80's action movies that was turned into 24 glorious anime episodes. This is one of my favorites, so I bought it on Blu-ray a while back. Not sure if there's a good streaming site for it. Maybe someone else can help me out on that one.

I'd recommend the Monogatari series, too. (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari: Kuro, Monogatari Second Series, Hanamonogatari, Tsukimonogatari, Owarimonogatari) I highly recommend you watch the series in order of release, not chronological. This series is a mixture of everything: mystery, ecchi, harem, comedy, horror, etc. But it balances well between them. The main character is kind of typical in trying to avoid killing his enemies, but that's because he's usually going against friends or family members. One thing that differentiates this from a typical story is the main character is not constantly getting stronger, finding new weapons, training, etc. to take on the next challenge. In fact, I would say he's significantly weaker as time goes on, so he has to spend more time trying to solve problems and outsmart enemies. This is a long series that has some action to it, but it's not an action show. It's very dialog driven with a lot of depth and it's easy to get lost. I notice something new every time I watch it. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely one of my favorites. You can find MOST of it here on Crunchyroll, but as I recall, they are missing the last 3 episodes of Bakemonogatari and the entire Nekomonogatari: Kuro series.

These are just a few shows that came to mind when I read through the thread. Other people have been making some great recommendations as well.
