Years ago, there was an anime store near me, but that didn't last too long unfortunely. Of course, this was just when anime was hitting the mainstream with Adult Swim....

the only stores in Idaho Falls (that I'm aware of, at least) that sells any anime goods are B&N and Hastings. Both of which only really stock the super popular anime that I don't necessarily give a **** about.

At least vocaloid merch is becoming more popular in the US. Too bad it's almost all Miku, though....

It was a noble idea, until they got too full of themselves and tried going the Netflix/CR route of trying to co-produce some anime, and then ambition starting disintegrating the chain from within.
Ever since, the Internet took over, and it's been hard to beat it since.

I think it was more the "anime wasn't popular quite yet" thing more than the "got overly ambitious with co-producing some anime" thing that did them in. Then again trying to co-produce something when it's not popular isn't really a super-great idea itself if you're not some mega-giant company that can survive a major flop.

WA state is a pretty ripe place to have anime stores as we host the annual Sakura-con anime convention in Seattle, which iirc is the oldest anime con still being hosted in the states and i think its the 2nd largest or so in terms of turnout.

There's a store that just opened up in Boise! It's kind of small, but there's a pretty decent selection of all kinds of different anime and genres. They also have a lot of model kits, if you're into that stuff. It's a bit of a drive, but if you're ever in the area you should check it out!

I know there's at least a few stores in and around Boise, but that's not the area I live in. Living largely off of government welfare doesn't exactly make me rich enough to go up there whenever I want, either. If I'm in the area at all, I've already spent what little savings I have on whichever convention I'm going down for, so there's very little chance I'll actually get to look at any stores. Best case scenario, I might be able to buy a super-cheap item in the dealer's room while I'm there. Maybe.

Sure would be nice if there were better labor laws. Working 0 hours a week (I'm "on call" supposedly. Been "on call" for 7 months now....) isn't exactly giving me much opportunity to contribute to society. :\

I planned to do something like this in 2014, I did few courses in business management and got my certificates, wrote up my business plan for the next few years. I got in contact with the wholesale and let them know I was going to be doing business. The only thing that stopped me was the bank didn't give me the loan because I wasn't working at the time.
>.< Good on him I say and good luck.

Good for him. I agree though its not that special tbh, most of the companies that are major players today started by hobbyists- it isn't really that unique save on a local level.
