That depends are where you are standing.

I don't see very many extreme liberals, the world has far too many extreme conservatives.

Also it's impossible to be a extreme progressive because there is another word for that in today's political vocabulary, socialist. Classifications are fun.

You say that like socialism is a bad thing. I fully support democratic socialism.

Its good to have an opinion. It's just that there are people that have different ones. Good or bad is all relative when it comes to issues of money.

That is something we can both agree on.

I'd say the term you are looking for is the regressive left. Extremists are always minority however their overall numbers can still be big if the original group is considerable.

Meh, there are probably about as many extreme liberals as there are extreme conservatives. Of course, it depends on what you consider "liberal" or "conservative" (since different people have different views as to what those terms mean). For example, for many people those terms mean what their social values are (for example, if you are pro-gay marriage so are a liberal, while if you are anti-gay marriage you are conservative). Other people use those terms to describe someone's stance on how the government should be run/ how much power the government should have/etc.

Usually, when people are talking about "extreme Liberals" or "extreme Conservatives" they are talking about social values.

There's absolutely nothing liberal about telling people how to live. These people are not liberals. Liberals support alternative lifestyles not because the lifestyle itself is important to them (though that might also be the case, depending on the person), but because freedom of expression is important to them. The "to hell with everyone different to me" stance taken by these "extreme liberals" is the exact same thing as the one taken by the people who think the way they're living is unnatural. They're just branded as liberals because their peers on the other side of the argument were there first, so they've gotta be something different, and liberals were different already. You don't call a snake a rabbit because it's in a fight with another snake. The real rabbits are out there doing their own thing.

"Liberal" means something different in the US and Canada then the rest of the world. Outside North America, it refers to those who believe in liberalism, which is the ideology you're speaking speaking about (freedom of expression, freedom of religion, free market and non-government interference), generally very pro-capitalist. But in the US, one who believes these things is called Libertarian and a liberal came to mean what OP was talking about, generally these people would be called "socialists" in other parts of the world, but the term still has too much of a negative connotation in the US (not so much nowadays, though you see it being used as an insult here and there) so liberal became popular as an alternative name because it gives off the idea of being the opposite of a conservative.

So it's less a case of calling a snake a rabbit and more akin to calling a biscuit a cookie due to the left over PTSD from the Cold War.

Modern day liberals are no different than Stalinist's.

It's just the number of steps they take to achieve their goals takes longer, but the end game is the same.
