If Daru dies next episode and it isn't shown to be the catalyst for she to move in a better direction with her life then I'll be more upset that we don't get to see something positive in her life than the fact Daru died in the first place.

It could be even worse than that, really. She is also being shown to be at the end of her rope, not being able to find a job, not wanting to go back to her clinging mother, not feeling strong enough to be able to go to the wedding of her former roommate and friend.

Crap. As a cat owner, I'm not sure I'll be able to watch that final episode. But I'll be gone for two weeks so I won't be able to watch it for a long time anyways.

Episode 3: She and the Look in Her Eyes

Damn Daru looks like her had a rough childhood and then seeing She (does she have a name? Can't recall) trying to become independent but then also wanting to stay dependent. It's a sort of conflict of emotions. It was conveyed very well. But Daru wants to be there for her but he can't jump anymore age is starting to show. I don't think I can take it. *remember to buy tissues for next week*

Episode 3

Ohh, I cried at the end. The human emotion in this show is just too real. ><;

I didn't realize this before, and I'm not sure if it's intentional, but this show also seems to borrow a lot of inspiration from another of Makoto Shinkai's short films called "Someone's Gaze" (Dareka no Manazashi). It's only seven minutes long and I recommend watching it if you haven't seen it yet.

Ep 3

Another emotional episode, as expected. Definitely hit home on a personal level as I've got an old cat that I've owned for as long as I can remember. Simply seeing the toll that time takes on a pet is devastating. I am happy to see the realism, and also worried about what that may indicate in the next and final episode. I can only hope that if Daru does pass away, he does so peacefully.

I totally forgot about this show ,

This is based on Shinkai sensei earlier works.
I remember on the panel he was asked about this and in his orginal short , he based the girl on college girlfriend at that time an he narrated that show.
And Kana once again voice another Shinkai title.

But it sure brings back memories of my cat however ,after I moved. I dont have a cat anymore.

Episode 4 (Finale)

So the owner's name is Miyu, and Daru is reaching the end of his natural lifespan. But just before he dies, he experiences Miyu's joy one last time before going to sleep forever. Even so, Miyu's life goes on with her memories of being with Daru having made her approach life more optimistically. That was pretty sad, but at the same time it did help make Miyu a better person and she did find another cat to take care of in the end.

Final Thoughts

As to be expected out of Makoto Shinkai, this show is full of emotion and tearjerking moments, and it made for quite a nice quick show to watch. The idea of telling a story narrated by a cat is just a great concept. Seeing that it is a short that not much depth can be put into it, but the story is simple enough that Shinkai can work his magic with the 28 minutes he has for this.

Episode 4

As expected, I cried. T__T

This was a beautiful short series. The epilogue especially tugged at my heartstrings. The new cat she picked up is the one from the original short film who was voiced by Makoto Shinkai himself. Really nice how they connected the two stories like that. I suppose that it's for this show but I enjoyed it while it lasted. <3

I only added this to my queue and have watched episode 1 and 2 - it's wonderful even from a dog-lover. I am going to be careful not to read too much here until I catch up on the episodes.

A wonderful little well written show that's well worth the watch for anyone who has ever connected with a pet. Heck, for those who haven't it may give at least a small window into exactly why some people have that sort of emotional connection with an animal. In my mind it only suffers because of my unavoidable need to compare it to Tabimachi Lateshow. They don't really share much beyond being short form series that are heavily emotion driven but because they came out in the same season block I can't help but compare them and, in the end, I just think more fondly of Lateshow.
