Either Fullmetal Alchemist series. They both deal with pain, loss, and regret. If you ever get the chance to see them I highly recommend it. Another good one is Cowboy Bebop. Baccano! is really silly and might make you laugh. The same thing goes for Toradora! You can watch Gurren Lagann as well which is all about carrying on and being strong. The Ghost Stories dub is for the most part hilarious.

When you feel down, adventure anime will cheer you up:

D.Gray-man
One Puece
Fairy Tail

Hell Girl (this one is psychological and makes you think)

If you´re feeling down first of all try speaking with someone you trust, they all will try whatever they can to help you. I can tell from a personal experience that it really does help.

But for anime recommendations nothing makes you feel better with yourself and lifts up your spirit than Gurren Lagann. I´m not going to spoil the story but one of the main messages of the show is accepting you for who you are, not for what other expect from you.

All these people just saying go to the doctor... is it really that easy? ive had depression for a long time, but it is way too expensive to go see a psychiatrist. after i went one time i couldnt even afford the prescription anti depressants. sometimes when it gets really bad we need a good happy distraction anime to not let our mind wander to the dark places.

but yea ive seen some pretty good suggestions here like food wars, one piece, fairy tail, my love story, kawaii complex, and pretty much any great comedy anime would help i think.

I think what could be helpful are anime that are not just cheerful but have a strong message that can be inspirational.
The two that have seem to do that for me are:

Welcome to the NHK
Pet girl of Sakura hall

Welcome to the NHK is psychological rom com with a great over all plot while the scenes can get a bit silly at times.
Pet girls ending theme is on my playlist and seem to inspire me to keep going every time it plays.

I found Welcome to the NHK incredibly relatable based on my own personal situation, but I feel like that series may just depress you more depending on your mindset. I've been watching Amanchu! and Orange lately and both of those I find pretty peaceful (though Orange deals a lot with suicidal depression and again, that could make things worse depending on your mindset). You know what? Natsume's Book of Friends. That show is incredibly chill and always puts me in a good mood whenever I watch it, so yeah, I'd definitely recommend it. (And the newest season is coming out later as well.)

I also find that re-watching old stuff I've seen before and really enjoyed tends to help.

I enjoyed barakemon and it helped me lift me up when I was in a slump. Good luck in dealing with your depression. It's rough.
