Synopsis

In the game, the player can choose between three different girls as the heroine, each with their own three male characters to romance. A certain song transports a boy named Sorata Suzuhara to a different era and place.

When Sorata regains consciousness, he finds himself standing in an unfamiliar place — an old town, awash with sepia tones. The scene is exactly like the Meiji and Taishō-era pictures he had seen in textbooks. He encounters three girls and nine young men in this world, and embarks on a journey in the skies with them and the giant Norn airship.

The first episode is now up on The Anime Network, and a subscription is needed to watch it: http://www.theanimenetwork.com/Watch-Anime/norn9

And it is also on Hulu as well: www.hulu.com/norn9

Episode 1

So it's basically introductions here as Koharu has suddenly found herself in a town on a ship. Everybody here has special abilities, and Senri lets everybody know that everybody might be enemies someday. Koharu doesn't know what her name is, but after falling into the water, she remembers it, or at least that's what she has been called. Not a bad way to start this show seeing that otoge adaptations tend to be shit, but at the very least Koharu doesn't seem to be that helpless MC that happens all too often in such shows. Let's see how things go from hereon out.

I don't know what to think about this episode. I mean, I liked it to an extent, but I don't know what to expect later on. This was a pretty chill episode, and yet there appears to be a darker, or at least a more conflict heavy underlying theme. Koharu seems pretty plain and standard to me, but even so, the setting and premise interests me enough; so I can get past that, and she will hopefully improve, or grow on me, later.

Very much what I expected. I thought the flying machine was real purty. The otome theme is pretty painful but it's pretty.

It should be noted that unlike past TAN shows, this one (and the other 2 simulcasts there) aren't limited to just the US and Canada. The territories for Norn9 are:

USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Latin America, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Turkey, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Well I forgot it was an otome game but when I started watching it , I remembered

This is definitely not my type of anime, the characters actually drove me nuts especially the MC , like the other otome game based anime

Well I am not subscribing to AnimeNetwork just to watch this

No thank you

Koharu gave me doormat otome MC vibes throughout the whole episode. But the guys aren't dressed distractingly weird for once. How rare! The ship is beautiful and Takagaki Ayahi voicing one of the other female characters is another plus for me.

Initial impressions!

Very interested in this one. Grabbed my attention very quickly with the world. I quite like the visual style and the look of the "powers" as well. It all just feels right to me.

That being said, the characters seem kind of "blah", but it's still early and we don't know any of them that well just yet. The heroine in particular just seemed kind of.... "eh".... but not in an annoying way to me personally. Not a big fan of the whole "damsel in distress" thing they pulled off multiple times in this episode and generally how passive she is. BUT considering it seems to be based off an otome game, I can forgive it. I've had my fill of generic harems, but i'm not quite there with generic reverse harems yet. Needless to say, if you have had your fill of those, then this is probably unbearable.

*Random Personal Note*

It's always been a fantasy of mine to live on ship like that, or a "floating city" in general. To me, that is like the coolest and most romantic thing EVER. And man, that floating city/ship looked beautiful inside! It's like something out of my dreams! I also adore the "steampunk-esque" gears and magic they have going on (kind of like Atelier: Escha and Logy).

Looking forward to more! Of the few shows i've seen thus far, this one was my favorite.

It is odd that the show is for subscribers only on TAN, as it past, the general rule was "available elsewhere = free on TAN". OTOH, they hadn't done simulcasts outside the US & Canada before, so going subscriber only allows them to skip the complication of selling ads for other countries.

There are three different main characters in the game, depending on your choices: Koharu, Nanami, and Mikoto. Each of them then has three pairing options (i.e. notice that there are nine guys). There is also Sorata, but he is only playable in the introductory chapter.

Would not surprise if the anime stays on Koharu, since she is the one the game encourages you to play first, but I do hope it takes a little time for Nanami (who is my favorite).
