I don't speak old Church Slavonic, but I was raised to acknowledge today as well... I was kind of wondering if some Eastern rite traditions like using the Julian calendar are known to Christiandom or society at large, or if you had to personally know someone.

Merry Christmas!
I go to a local Eastern Catholic Church but they follow the Gregorian calendar

In the past I've always said "Christmas", but not with any intention to be disrespectful to people who don't celebrate. However, now that Trump and the Religious Right have made such a big deal about some people wanting to be respectful and conjuring up this absurd myth that people can't actually say Merry Christmas (I worked in retail in a BIG chain up to last year and Merry Christmas was stamped everywhere, and I was never told not to say it), it really makes me never want to say it ever again.

I'm a nonbeliever myself, and was still happy to say Merry Christmas (even though I'm really celebrating the Winter Solstice myself). But now I'd rather not. Congratulations, Christian bigots.
