You died and found you were a ghost but couldn't move on, how would you deal?

Get into some dangerous intellectual territory, probably. See, if I'm a ghost, then I know that the soul does exist, so if there was anything to learn about the afterlife with that new knowledge, I'd try to figure out as much as I could. If it turned out that there was an afterlife and there wasn't a risk of any kind of eternal torment, I think I'd eventually come to think of people who were still on their "first lives" as not entirely real, and end up watching them as though I were watching a TV series, using whatever ghostly powers I had to bring more comedy/drama/poignancy into the lives of those I was "subscribed to".

That's long-term, though. At the beginning, I'd try to be a friendly ghost that helps people out and haunts people who share my hobbies so that I get to enjoy them too. And if the whole afterlife thing was more strict, I'd stay that way, unless there was something specific I had to do to avoid getting a bad end myself, as it were.

One of my very first (and favorite, of my own) YA novels was on this very question.

(As the just-found-out joins a group of ghosts attempting to turn mystery-group to solve a crime--"We're like Scooby-Doo in reverse.": )
"Sometimes we just have to leave hints as a breadcrumb trail for the living to find, and then make it look like we're all restless and obsessed so that they do, even if they end up taking the credit. That's the way we ghosts have been known to work, you know, must have heard the stories: 'Woo, fire in the barn, Timmy, go get Grandpa'...Enough to make you sick. At least that'd be a step up."
"You have no shame."
"I know...Just rattling your chains."
"Look, I'm a ghost, I can rattle my own chains."

(Yeah, it was pretty well supposed to be a Joss Whedon homage, to clash with the Lois Duncan framework. )

It's kind of hard to say without some definition of what abilities or restrictions one would have as a ghost.

If not bound to a place, I'd explore the world and maybe even beyond.
If able to communicate directly with some people, I'd probably have something to do with them. It'd be funny, in a few hundred years, to talk with some historian or writer.
If able to move objects, might amuse myself trying to move things in ways that change the world in useful or fun ways.
If able to possess, might try it from time to time, though I'd probably try not to be too evil with it.
My curiosity would probably lead me to try and find out why I was a ghost. I'd likely try and find other ghosts as well.
I suppose there's a chance I'd take what abilities I had and create games to play based off them. Decide on some goal to achieve using those abilities, and see if I can make them happen:
"Oh, this couple is going through a rough spell and are avoiding one another, eh? Let's see if I can help them!"
*hides their keys, leaves a bottle of wine on the table, turns off the lights and puts on some smoooth jazz*
*waits*

If unable to have any impact on the world, I might be able to amuse myself for a long time just observing what was going on in the world, but it'd be frustrating and might lead to me periodically taking breaks from it.
If bound to a place, I'd probably eventually become quite bored and then upset and might even start behaving like the traditional idea of a ghost, haunting people if they would not help me pass on.

I would wonder why I didn't move on..........and what I would do as a ghost would depend on how much of those ghostly powers I would have...if I could just observe, and not affect anything, that would be awful. No purpose to being a ghost. If I could affect things I would try to help my family in some way. Make their lives better. Warn them of danger, make them feel loved. I would talk to the other ghosts and figure out if I could get more "ghostly powers" over time so I could do more stuff.......you know, like be seen, or move things. I would need a purpose to my "life" rather than to just Be and hang around observing without being able to do anything.

Explore what I can do with my ghostly self :3

Edit: that sounds wrong. I meant, explore around and figure out some ghostly abilities.

Probably try to find a mortal companion that isn't scared of me. I'll be around that person if I want to be around the living. At other times, I'll be flying all over the world. Might as well explore the bottom of the sea.

I would haunt people, but not horror movie style. I would do really annoying things like turning on lights after you turn them off, or opening the curtain so that sunlight blinds your screen. I figure if I'm holding a grudge hard enough to not pass on, I'm gonna get my sweet revenge, haha.
