Excluding dutch-speaking territories? Well, that sucks. And that's gotta be the first time I've seen that happening. Any reason why?

It's certainly a long list of excluded territories.

It changed from 1st announcement...

From : Worldwide except for Asia, Spain, Portugal, Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, and Dutch-speaking territories.
To : Worldwide excluding: Asia, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand; and German, French, Italian and Dutch Speaking Europe.

I was safe with only France, now I'm out with French speaking Europe... Why this change ?

Yes, I don't recall we ever had an exclusion of the Dutch-spreaking regions. Strange...

As far as I know our country is still a member of both the Dutch Langauge Union and the Francophonie, so it's not like it was available here in the first place due to the exclusion of the Dutch-speaking territories. It's quite unfortunate it's unavailable here though.

It was available, I checked right after the announcement and I didn't have the message

Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region.

back then (maybe because I'm on the French side ?).

And we were once excluded (and still are) with German speaking region (Chaika).

Chaika –The Coffin Princess will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience in the following territories: U.S.A, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Turkey, Latin America (Central and South America including Caribbean), Europe (excluding German speaking territories), the Arab League, and the Middle East.

I've checked it too and it was unavailable for me at the start if I remember correctly. I don't think it matters where you live in Belgium, since we got clearly detected by our country alone and not its regions. But then again, this season Alto Adige, one particular province of Italy, was also region-restricted because a part of it speaks German.

Yeah, the restriction on Chaika was a strange one. Belgium gets usually never grouped into German-speaking Europe despite the small fraction of people who speak German natively here (about 0.7%). But the inclusion of Belgium into the Dutch-speaking regions seems rather logical to me.

No Koyomimonogatari? I downloaded the app which otherwise works but it seems the videos are region locked. Bummer.

They can't, Netflix already has it. I think Netflix are even on the production committee.

This is horrible news!

Our original news simply had the regions slightly wrong. As our brand team was asleep at the time we realized and as it's a weekend, it was me who changed the article. I'm not exactly the one who handles this normally. Sorry if this was overly confusing.

Netflix's 'we'll put it out all at once for the binge-watchers' approach really seems like a bad fit when the show in question actually IS coming out weekly in Japan yet they just sit on it until it's done. While normally I appreciate any and all streaming companies, in this case I kind of hope they aren't too successful with their anime endeavors, because their approach could throw a big wrench in the 'everything streams day-and-date' situation we (or at least those in the US) have finally achieved with Crunchyroll/Funimation/Daisuki. Their way of doing things just feels like going back to the bad old days before streaming and fansubs.

I don't know much about how Netflix handles anime titles, but I know they streamed every new episode of Better Call Saul in EU pretty close to when it aired in the US. They can release episodes weekly if they feel like it.

Errors can happen, that's human.
Thanks for the clarification !

Yeah, but it's a delaycast (Jan 26th for 1st ep) and very few titles can be streamed free, even delayed (aka paid subscribers only can watch their shows).
Not sure about all Europe, they're only doing french subtitles.

Feels like it would have been easier to list the countries that get to watch it haha.

Subscriber only here in the UK and 90% of their catalogue is region locked (even titles to which Sentai does actually hold UK rights are locked for some reason), so you'd have to pay for access to 3 shows, two of which I'm not even remotely interested in.

UPDATE:

It appears you'll be able to view without being a subscriber after all.

The first episodes of Norn9 and Girls Beyond the Wasteland have now changed from "subscriber" to "guest" (which allows free viewing). Assuming this isn't a US/Canada only switch, that means international viewers will be able to view the episodes without subscribing, albeit at the cost of having to wait.

I expect the same will be true for Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle, but as it doesn't appear on the site in the US, I am unable to verify that.

If you would, check and verify the first episodes of these are now showing as "guest" on your side of the Atlantic.
