Okay so a bunch of big companies have teamed up to make automatic system to reduce online bullying. I honestly can't see how this system will be good at all, I know they have money. However money isn't the problem since at it's core whatever they make will still be software. Therefore it won't work properly, for instance I could use the word idiot for a joke or say it like something was idiotic. A automatic system won't understand those things and just see the word idiot.

And if someone is bullying then you can just block them or report them, most services have a way to block people and report!

So what does CR think about this?

Didn't watch the video based on your description.

Personally, I think people need to have to take a class in order to be able to go on the internet. The class will hurl insults at you for an hour and a half until your next block, thereby toughening you up so that when you go onto the internet you (not OP specifically) will know how to handle yourself without crying about your feelings being hurt from some random anon on the internet.

People need to stop being little bitches, and being offended by everything.

Automatic systems don't work in general. We need to stop relying on software to do all the hard work for us. A machine can't differentiate between an innocent joke and an actual insult.

Also, I know one person on here for sure who would HATE this post. Because there's no such thing as bullying you know? We've all got to deal with our own problems

Im down with fighting harassment on the web and I welcome programs and systems like this. Twitter is absolutely shit at handling harassment ("BUT MUH BLOCK BUTTON" says the guy whos never heard of a sock puppet account) and I think there is alot they could do better.

Lol what user are you reffering to? I think I know who, but I might be wrong

Well there's also another layer to speak of with this that those companies probably haven't taken to mind. It's the fact that something you consider not harmful may be harmful and bullying towards someone else. Therefore you can't really count on a system to do this for you since there'll always be a persons own interpretation that comes into play

I watched the video, and I didn't get the impression that they were attempting to develop a fully automated system for blocking potentially offensive content.

Just send them all to 4chan and afterwards they will come out ready for the internet or in a noose. Let only the strong survive.

How do you even get bullied online? I have never had an issue. I also don't post stupid shit or share my life on the internet and expect everyone to clap and praise me.

Edit: Notice how comments are disabled? Their software cannot even fix their youtube comments how on Earth do they expect it to do anything else?

A system like this will help in some cases, however it won't help in most cases and just do a bunch of mistakes.

I mean have you checked youtubes content ID system that is suppose to protect copyrighted content, it can't deem what's a copyright offend and what's a review or opinion about something.... As someone who have a degree in software development I can say that this won't really help since software is flawed by defalut

Honestly it's a waste of time and resources. We can't expect an online system to target online bullying. People will just find ways around it, or different venues to bully. Only by focusing on why people bully, and changing our culture can we ever hope to attack bullying.

It's a people problem, and we the people need to solve it. We're too far from true AI to consider using an automatic bullying software as a viable approach.

'determining context of messages' LOL intel CEO you really think intelligible AI will be that soon.

Don't you know, we're in a first world country, bully doesn't exist for us
