Mature content and why forumites fear an ignore button.
Posted 1/8/16 , edited 1/8/16
Don't know how long its been, but its about time to bring it up again if it was addressed before.

This gets pushed back under the crusade against censorship of slurs and cursing and other adult-themed content. Precisely that, its the campaign to smut. "We don't want noone robbing our fun"

All I know is that an ignore button would NOT affect anyone else but the user that pushes it.............

The definition of "not taking shit" is not letting people bring you down. By using such a function like an ignore button, you would be doing precisely that , while NOT affecting anyone else.

Just consider that.

What does the ignore button do I don't understand? Does it block shows or are u talking about blocking threads.

In either case you can just not watch the show or click the thread lol

I think what she means is, a blocking system to help prevent you from seeing certain other people's posts by adding them to your own list of blocked users.

Which I've seen used semi-effectively in my experience over at narutoforums.com.

Of course I've read a lot more terrible crap from some individuals there than I have here, and so can see why that's a thing.

I've seen a lot of friendly people on this site already.

I probably wouldn't use this function, but I don't see any harm in it.

do u block a lot of people lol?

im lucky I haven't had to block anyone.

but Idk if I agree with this. it seems like it'll just bring private matters into public.

So if you're on a thread, and you can't see someone's posts, and I guess rarely it happens, but you post something that the blocked person already said or something contradictory or something like that. Other people will point out that you did XYZ when the blocked dude already said that or something, or answered that question.

Then it'll just cause unnecessary drama where they all realize you blocked them. Idk.

There's certain posts in PM I wish I wouldn't have seen. I would love a ignore button in those cases. xD

so?

but to answer your question, when someone blocked me and I tried sending them a PM, it just said "not acceptin gmessages" and I didn't know it meant block lol. So no it really doesn't show unless they try to send u another PM.

Ah okay. I'm paranoid whenever it comes to blocking someone. Especially if they can see. I'm weird lol.

Bad idea. Forums are not chat-rooms, and are never meant to be subject to individuals singling out others for personal censorship.

Ignore buttons are fine for PM's, or guestbooks and what not, but they are not appropriate on boards like the one this discussion is in right now.

It's not "singling out", though.

It would be you not being able to see their response at all, effectively giving yourself a physical reason to not respond back to them.

Other people would still see that person's post just fine.

At least that's how I'm familiar with how a forum function like that should work.

And that's fine, but that's a chat-room thing.
