Yeah, I can definitely see it being abused as well.

We are a fickle lot on CR. but, it's better than some other anime sites i used prior at least.

The example above doesn't help the argument for it. lol. That sort of thing gets a giggle out of me.

Edit: And it's gone lol

It is really nice generally, people here are really cool.

Blocking users only goes so far, especially when their posts get quoted a lot. From my experience, it doesn't carry over to inside quotes.

This isn't League of Legends where someone's disagreeable(to put nicely) words can interrupt your game play. It's a forum where the main purpose is the exchange of ideas.

A tool can be used responsibly, it's only that its been proven that people do not know how to use it responsibly in the modern time by majority. It start off well perhaps, but I strongly think its usage would prove more harm than good based off of trends. -PJ

We don't need another social media folly to build more idea echo chambers. There are other places for that.

It's good to see views you don't agree with. You may learn a benefit of something you didn't like, or you may come to better understand why you don't like it. The same person might even teach you some new idea you don't like. In any case it will broaden your view and better equip you to deal with the world.

All I know is that an ignore button would NOT affect anyone else but the user that pushes it.............-OP

That's single minded thinking. If everyone starts removing everything they don't want to see, the forum will keep filing apart the community. Fewer ideas will be spread and seen. The forum will become less active. Discussions in a thread will become more disjointed and repetitive to other observers.

It doesn't strike me as something you really need in a forum setting..

What would be the purpose of an ignore button? So you don't have to see it if someone's writing something deliberately offensive (like personal attacks)? There are rules and mods for a reason. If someone crosses the line, report'em and let the mods sort it out.

If it's about not seeing viewpoints you don't agree with, or topics you'll be tempted to post in that'll probably result in an argument... It's not possible to just ignore them the old fashioned way?

While I don't think an ignore button is going to destroy the forums or anything so extreme, it does seem rather superfluous.

You don't need an ignore button. You can keep scrolling or ignore it yourself. It's not hard. I don't understand why it's such an issue these days. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being breathing and 10 being running a marathon with a broken leg, ignoring posts is a 3 AT MOST.

Someone out there needs to create that function just because you're too lazy and silly to stop yourself from reading something and responding. And you probably still wouldn't use the function. It's like making a machine designed to make a sandwich for you because you are too lazy to use your hands. And you'll still go out and buy a sandwich from a store or restaurant because using the sandwich machine involves putting ingredients into it and you're unwilling to even do that little thing.

Is reading a post you dislike bad for your health? The truth is it only affects you as much as you allow it to.

And, so what, you screw up and say something stupid. Give it a few weeks or a few days and everyone forgets about it. Speaking from experience here.

Not wanting an ignore button has nothing to do with fear. It's just a function that will end up being useless because the types of people that want the function are still going to not use it and get offended by others' posts, anyway. Ultimately, the person needs to control his/her desire to read the post and react. A million more functions won't help as long as the person doesn't have that self control. This constant clamoring just sounds like a convenient way of blaming one's own problems on others, if you ask me. It's always someone else's fault and complainers are the coddled victims.

One would think someone would turn off ignore if they wanted to learn new ideas, but think about it, they ignored them for a reason, they don't want to see them anymore. If someone came to my house and harrassed me I shouldn't allow it simply because I might learn something. Its the same principle. Might make a similar argument against birth control because I might enjoy having a baby despite my wishes.

You know, if the forums fell apart like a house of cards because UNinterested people don't like YOU or YOUR opinions, we should by that logic reinstate the draft and not have an army of volunteers.

Tbh have to say, this PJ is like some cult in here but they'res so full of s*** like BO she's established on CR everyone applauds + kisses their a**, so anything they say is backed by these sycophantic morons b/c of some pretentious air she is an intellectual but the maturity of a HS freshman . All it takes to do what she does it be PC about their trolling and pick the right targets and provide entertainment value by being an opportunistic douchebag. So by extention when ever someone quotes this person I assume they're a douchebag by association.

But back on point, YOU WOULD THINK you'd want INTERESTED particicants, think of it THIS way, an ignore button would only serve to AID purifying debates, in effect bringing back the Extended Discussion everyone always talks about; it promotes dedication and committment to academia that people claim the merged forum lost.

PS And another thing, it already exists in the google chrome app courtesy of beardfist, and and the forums haven't deteriorated as you and pj, netdisorder and co. predict.

Don't teach women to use the block button. Teach men not to cyber-rape.

It's not up to you, buddy. A person might wish to see other post than the offender they wish to ignore. No signs of weakness, a matter of preference. Nice try. It might be bad for your health if it causes you anxiety. Is it weak, yeah, but is that a bad thing? Need to get over your masculinity. Let gay people marry and let CR users ignore. Simple.
