Like many, I didn't know anything about this show until I watched the first episode. I saw the 40+ min run time and was a little daunted. I stayed for the entire thing and couldn't be happier. Some shorter 20+ mins shows this season dragged through its course, but this one didn't. I was fully engaged and interested in interactions, as well as the rakugo performances.

Konatsu and Yakumo's relationship and past history really piqued my interest. I am eager to learn more about them and to hopefully see Konatsu perform a rakugo in the future.

The show was interesting to watch and I believe some of us had a bit of a culture shock when it came to the concept of Rakugo, which I found interesting due to a little more research on it. I think the show will go somewhere, so i'm looking forward to more!

Not that I'll pretend to fully understand the routines and foundations of Rakugo, but as someone who wants to work in theatre this episode almost instantly grabbed me. The performances themselves weren't what I liked the most admittedly, but the character drama was top notch.

Like I said after the Erased: although I didn't expect much this season (aside from a few sequels), it's nice to have surprises. I sure see myself looking forward to the next episode every week!

That being said, it isn't for everyone so I doubt we'll see much discussion on this show

I wasn't aware it was 40+ minutes when I started to watch. I got up to the what felt like the natural ending point in a typical 20-30 minute anime, and saw it was the halfway point. I did pause it, but only because nature called and OCD took over from there. Beyond the actual immersion of the show, which I was surprised by how quickly it engrossed me, the background music is the best. That cool jazz in when he was doing the thief routine just added a lot of depth for me. It's not even really noticeable, which is how BGM should be. Or should I say, it was not overpowering rather than unnoticeable.

Episode 1

I was more immersed in this than I would have expected to be. This was a pretty good first episode, got through the important stuff and introduced what Rakugo basically was really well.

I really enjoyed the Thief performance from Yotaro. I felt like I was part of the audience. I surprisingly got a few laughs out of it. It was so well done, probably something I want to see in real life one day.

But there is actually more to it than just Rakugo, with the whole promise thing and what ever happened to Sukeroku. Wonder how that will get implemented. Also Konatsu is cute, hope they get together.

Anyways looking forward to the next episode. Wonder if this is just for the first episode, the time length, but I am curious to see how they play this whole thing out.

Well, I didn't realise it was 47 mins long, and I too looked at the timer halfway and thought it should have finished by now.

An unusual show for sure, but I did enjoy it overall for a first episode, though the rakugo did feel a smidgeon too long at times. I did get drawn into the last performance such that I really feared Yotaru making some sort of loud noise from falling asleep, such as his body hitting the ground and/or knocking something over.
Kudos to Yakumo playing it off as an impromptu bear.

The character dynamics were interesting, and I seem to be partial to women who are quite passionate about doing something but cannot do it due to gender inequality, or feel that their gender holds them back

Ep 1

Oh wow that was surprisingly good, more so the style than the actual premise of the show. Their character back&forth is a mixture of slow yet oddly engagingly energetic, I can see how some points can be considered dulled, but I was just drawn in pretty well. Particularly love the character art style than any other show else currently out, they have that lean yet lively look, i.e. like Baccano/Drrr and so forth, in fact possibly what I wished what the current Drrr airing looked more like. The 47 min run time is a bit taxing but pretty manageable. Looking forward to how the character interactions shape over the series.

This first episode was pretty good, actually much better than most super power anime of this season.
Looking forward for more.

A surprise. Wasn't all what I expected.

Holy crap, was that Akira Ishida as the Master?

AOTS, calling it.

I loved this opener though. The time just flew by. It looked nice, the characters are all endearing so far, the comedy is great, and the way they captured the art of rakugo was framed wonderfully. I love the cultural aspects. Also, some of the scenes were so oddly sensual and DEEN nailed the animation and detail on them so well. Looking forward to the next episodes.

He sure is and he is actually in a bunch of anime this season

What I noticed the more I listened to the story the funnier it gets, I actually started laughing more. Tomokazu Seki did a great job with rakugo part. He is talking really fast there. I am glad I met him many years ago, the very first seiyuu I met.

Episode 2

Yotaro and Bon have their stories explained about how they took a liking into Sukeroku's rakugo, and their styles couldn't be any more different. Yotaro, now Hatsuhiro, is full of energy that he would rush his rakugo, while Bon, now Kikuhiko, is more of the quiet type whose rakugo comes across as being lifeless. This episode does a great job in putting those contrast in styles on display.
