So much class and culture this series has. Seriously, compare this to that KyoAni phantom Anime they are doing and see the difference. Fine, they are different genres, but the same art-form.

Wow. Big difference in entertainment level there. I almost fell asleep during the first rakugo but the second one with Yurakueti was phenomenal and full of energy. I think smiling and connecting with the audience is quite important for a performance to go well.

Great episode again. The quality of the dialogues is very well done imo along with the character expressions.

Good stuff.

Unlikeliest of friends, and one clearly had more natural talent than the other and thus is inspiring the other to have a good go.
Delivery of the performances was well executed in the episode to show the stark contrasts in ability.

I wonder if the aforementioned accident was Hatsutaro passing the baton to Kikuhiko to ensure the Yakumo rakugo lived on, and give him some real desire to become a top performer.

I still need to remind myself that this is a DEEN show. The quality is way beyond everything they've ever done.

So this week we get the first part of Kikuhiko (Yakumo) and Hatsutaro (Kanatsu's father) back story. Hatsutaro is a natural but a but crude and fast on delivering his lines while Kikuhiko is a bit too uptight and doesn't put much passion into it. The differences in their performances was amazing and they have an interesting dynamic between them. Seems like we'll get to learn more about it next week.

This one really surprised me. I never even saw this anime coming and I'm looking forward to each new episode more than any other show atm. I'm not even sure why I decided to watch it. Out of boredom I think. I'm glad I did.

With the music playing, it felt like a grim reaper was about to appear for Kikuhiko. Thankfully, Hatsutaro saved the day. Pretty interesting episode. Seeing the relationship that those two have formed, I'm finding it less and less likely that Yakuma committed something particularly malicious later on.

Did the anime episode feel like 47 minutes?

Yes, but it kept me more interested than most of the regular length premieres this season.

This! I'd put off starting this a few days when I noticed the length, was tired, and looking for something to fill 20 minutes before I went to bed.

But today I did start watching, forgetting completely that it was a long, until I did start wondering why it wasn't ending yet. So I could definitely feel how much longer it was, but I was really happy that it wasn't ending just yet and there were a full 24 minutes left.

This and Erased now have me feeling pretty good about the new season.

Episode 2 was really engaging. The contrast between the two rakugo performances was surprisingly engaging and illustrative of their characters. Very much looking forward to next week's ep.

When I first started watching this, I was reminded of Tiger & Dragon (the live action JDorama, http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Tiger_%26_Dragon). Similar premise: small time Yakuza wants to switch careers and go into Rakugo. However, the anime is vastly different. I'm enjoying the anime immensely! Can't wait for the episodes to keep on rolling out.

Episode 3

This episode focuses on Kikuhiko and all of the struggles he went through to become the rakugo master Yakumo, and it sure was tough living in Japan during WWII as rakugo became censored, and eventually the school closed down with students opting to serve in the army. But Kikuhiko never lost hope, and his optimism that he learned to develop from Hatsutaro paid off in the end. That's just a well-done story there. This show has definitely grown on me ever since the first episode where my thoughts were "Why in the wide world am I watching this?" for the majority of it. The rakugo definitely reflects his nature, that it is.

And the opening is sung by Megumi Hayashibara, who is one of the big names back in the early days of anime. She hasn't been active as of late, but it's great to hear her singing again.

Episode 3

Great episode. Felt a little bit slow because of the extensive background storytelling about Kikuhiko but still wonderfully crafted.

I almost forgot that this setting took place around WWII and I believe is before Japan attacked the U.S.?
The rakugo felt lacking this episode but that's alright because it's more about characterization.

The OP song is great. Very stylistic with this show.

Episode 3

Opening is catchy as heck!

Best BROmance of the season; hands down. Hidden gem of the season as well; calling it now!
