The writer is still working as far as I can tell from his website. He released I think a rough draft of volume 11. I hope that he can continue working with this tax arrest behind him.

Close to that. Willie though owed a lot more than this guy. If what animenews posted was correct, it was close to 1 million USD of royalties were not filed as income. He owed 250k of that in taxes and fines. As far as I know he paid that off and was put under house arrest for the time he has to serve as part of his sentence. I think the jail sentence started in December last year, but he has been writing since then as evident from the latest postings he has done for volume 11 of the Log Horizon light novel series.

For what it's worth, someone's still doing short, online (but official) supplements for the Log Horizon TRPG, so that's still going on too.

I for one really hope there is a season 3. Season 2, while not as good as season 1, was still enjoyable and I really want to see where this story is going. Hopefully they will learn from their 'mistakes' in season 2 and head back into the politics, intrigue, and action of season 1 as opposed to the dragging of season 2.

Or maybe make a movie. I could go for a Log Horizon movie.

Absolutely want a season 3. Give me more Log Horizon! Although I do with they developed the romantic relationships more, and perhaps gave someone a super secret technique ( ) but honestly, I really would want a season three, since season 2 wasn't quite "resolved" for me.

Wasn't quite resolved? It opened a whole new line of questions, is what it did. Those questions need answering!

I dropped by to take a look at what was being said last, and since it was awhile ago I'll merely point out a few things in relation to what was said.

Crunchyroll did a nice summary of the author, Mamare Touno's tax evasion issues and court issues in the news piece here:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2016/04/27-1/log-horizon-and-maoyu-author-sentenced-for-tax-evasion

A little more detail can be found by following the links at the bottom of the article.

What needs to be kept in mind is that the anime was aired on NHK-E, a government sponsored channel...sadly it's highly unlikely that they will ever commission a new series now due to the tax issues and the "shame" of it all. So the best hope of return does lie in a new network or streamer (HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE CRUNCHYROLL) picking it up and running with it.

The author's website : http://tounomamare.com/ is still up and running and new manga is coming out, even if the author is obsessed with side stories now. Plus there's the highly confusing to an old guy like me http://lhrpg.com/lhz/top as well, which seems to be a sort of social media system of sorts.

I know it doesn't bring happiness and joy to the hearts of those patiently awaiting a season 3, but at least there is new stuff for you to find if you just know where to look. And remember, reading it or watching it from "unofficial" sources doesn't help more get made, they ain't gonna make more if there's no money in it...so buy that merch.

An update for those still paying attention. It seems that Log Horizon has returned from the dead. New manga are being published and released on a regular schedule again. Starting with volume 11, featuring KRUSTY!!

To celebrate the launch of Volume 11, niconicovideo is holding a popularity contest to determine the most popular character of the series.

You can vote at: https://site.nicovideo.jp/seiga/loghorizon_vote/

Or save yourself some time and simply click on the link below to vote for everyone's favorite, Nyanta.

No news on a possible season 3 yet but this bodes well as a return of the manga means new story, which means material for a potential new season is appearing now.

To little to late? Overlord has taken the anime community by storm already.

They both have their place.

Overlord, while the initial setting had to do with an MMO, is more about the fantasy world. It's also more of a power fantasy, although it handles it well.

Log Horizon on the other hand focuses more on the fact that the fantasy world integrates nearly all of the features of the MMO. While Shiroe has been shown to be quite capable, the show focuses more around the community of MMO players and all of their individual relationships.

---

People often compare all the MMO anime, however, they are quite different from each other.

.hack// for instance is focused more around the ecology of MMOs. The way people interact with each other inside and outside of the game. The sci-fi / fantasy aspect is simply a topic for discussion more than anything else.

SAO focuses on the personal MMO experience, that is, what a single player hopes to get out of an MMO. This is more comparable to fantasy harem anime since they are very frequently about escapism and an ideal personal experience.

Log Horizon is is a blend of the .hack// ecology focus and an actual sci-fi fantasy story. That is to say, it's more akin to shonen anime like Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, etc in the way that it operates. It has an overarching plot draped in mystery that is separated into smaller arcs with multiple characters that experience personal journeys and character development.

Overlord on the other hand takes SAO as a base, and makes it into a fantasy seinen political drama. That is to say, it's more comparable to Berserk.

Am I the only one that prefers these shows to stay in the Medieval era? Like... why move on to advancing technology? We are doing that in life. lol
