Unless they've given exclusive streaming licenses for the UK to someone else, I don't really see what would stop them. Even if Animax UK or Viewster have Funimation titles, that doesn't mean that somewhere in the contract Funimation didn't include a provision for streaming it themselves. Likewise, if any exclusivity was granted, it could have had an expiration date. Keep in mind that based on a Twitter comment, Funimation have been planning this for about a year (if not longer).

I did the maths, a huge amount of recent and classic FUNimation titles are owned by Anime Limited in the UK, and that's before you factor in any pre-existing streaming deals FUNimation has. We also won't be getting One Piece or Dragon Ball Z (because Toei). I think people are going to be hugely disappointed when they realise.

Almost all the shows I wanted except Dagashi Kashi and Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2. Not too bad this time around. Either way I prefer CR to other services just for the fact that they usually have a mix of titles other services have and don't have. For there being so many titles each season they're doing a pretty good job in my opinion.

I was wondring when we'd get a JDrama annoucement. I'll check out Wakakozake when it's available
(and maybe you can get season 1 in the future - hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the 2nd season without having seen the 1st (on that note, I would still like someone to licence season 1 of Wagnaria!! for streaming in the UK)).

Why bring us season 2 of Wakakozake when we haven't seen season 1?

you've raised my hopes, and dashed them quite expertly, sir!

edit: well, funimation has a page for it, but no episodes. so they're either late, or its region-locked like CR. and its not showing up on Daisuki, period. time to watch it at an arguably less reputable site.

Funimation will broadcast it at 5:00pm EST on Mondays I believe. Their license probably includes a several-day-delay clause so they can't stream it as soon as it is available. Either that or they wanted to spread their shows more across the week so delayed it intentionally.

FUNimation is coming to the UK in February with their new service FunimationNow

They couldn't even be arsed to give us our own announcement, so we're obviously not a priority for them, and most of the promo titles they're using won't be available in the UK. Something tells FUNimationNow might not be as successful as they think...

...They DID give their own announcement, it was on Facebook, probably Twitter, they launched a whole new website for FunimationNow, it was on the front page of the normal Funimation website... there are only so many places they can 'announce' such things. Also how did you come to the conclusion that most of their promo titles won't be available in the UK? As far as I am aware, most of their licenses technically include the UK already.

I'm not sure but I don't think this is season 2 of the Wakakozake drama, I think it is season 2 of Wakakozake of all mediums - that is, I think it is officially being titled as Season 2, in regards to the anime being seen as Season 1. On that note, if you were unaware, you can watch season 1 of Wakakozake (the anime) here on CR: http://www.crunchyroll.com/wakakozake

No, FunimationNow got it's own announcement, the fact it was coming to the UK was always hidden in amongst other stuff like the announcement of new video games console apps. Even on the front page of the site (which we now can't access, as they've locked it to North America) we were listed after the planned launch of a Windows 10 app.

I compiled a list of titles they don't have for the UK. It includes a lot of the big titles from last year (as well as most of their huge catalogue titles), like One Piece, Dragon Ball, AssClass, AoT Junior High, Blood Blockade Battlefront, Arslan, Seraph of the End, Prison School, Tokyo Ghoul....

There's some evidence to suggest FUNimation may have sub-licenced some of their shows to Anime Ltd. (Gangsta. popped up on Daisuki with a Funimation logo at the beginning and Blood Blockade Battlefront appeared on Animax with a bunch of other Funimation shows), but AL have denied several times that any deal between the two parties exists. I maintain my original position, people are going to be hugely disappointed when they realise how many shows FUNimation don't have for the UK.

ok you have a point, but with a couple of exceptions, most of those are available in the UK either on DVD or on Viewster... I know that isn't the point you were making, but the fact is that most of them are still available to UK consumers through legal means

also as regards the thing about FunimationNow getting its own announcement rather than the fact that it was coming to the UK, I didn't really think it was particularly 'hidden', I just thought that it was included amongst all the other information, so anyone who actually read it all would have seen it. Since they made various announcements all at once (pretty much), they probably didn't see fit to make each announcement separately. I admit it wasn't treated as a particularly big thing where it was listed, but I imagine a lot of that was to do with their expectation that very few people outside of the US and Canada would see their announcements. They probably expected the news to spread through other media, as most US residents probably don't care in the slightest if it is now available in the UK.

My point was more that many people are expecting Funimation to match it's US line-up 100%. And even though we know they don't have OP and DBZ, and we can take an educated guess that they won't have any of the Anime Ltd. shows, I think people are going to be disappointed with what we do get because of the ridiculous ideas they have in their head. Short of publishing a list of all the titles they don't have for the UK, there's not a lot Funimation can do about this, so I feel bad for their PR team.

Most seem to be taking it well, but there are one or two that they have already ruled out subscribing due to the lack of OP and DBZ. I think it's more the principle of having different territories treated differently, rather than OP and DBZ being dealbreakers. I think many had the idea that once Funimation came over, things would be different and literally everything we had ever wanted and millions of shows more would be streaming and region lockouts would be a thing of the past never to darken our doorstop again. Obviously that hasn't happened (nor was it ever going to), and I think some are just disappointed in that.

The pessimist in me thinks, even with the two big players, the UK will still be massively second fiddle to North America, the only difference is now we pay 2 different people to feel second fiddle, instead of only one....

I know most of their US customers wouldn't care, which is why you give a separate announcement, so those that care feel valued and those that don't can move on and ignore it.

Is that it with the announcements? There are three good shows, a bunch of 3-8 minute segments, and what feels like the millionth magical girl and mecha genre rehashes.

To be fair to Crunchyroll, that's basically all there is this season...

Fully understood. It feels like the creative levels in the Japanese studios is beginning to dry up. I will admit that I am very excited about Erased. Seems like it will be an exciting story, which certainly breaks the mold on the same ho-hum formula a lot of shows have been using lately.

Netflix has had it down as an exclusive for quite some time now. I think they're even on the production committee.
