Ugh I hope so. It's been so long. Honestly, if he's not going to finish it I'd rather he just say it's done.

Hopefully the manga will continue by summer. I've been into this series since the original anime got fansubbed in 2001. Had to watch the whole thing on VHS tapes. By the time Kurapika had finally returned to the manga, 9 years had past. I'd be super pissed if the series just ended without him fully reuniting with Leorio, Gon, & Killua.

Ya know, I always wondered and maybe someone could fill me in if this has been addressed by someone at some point but. If an Author is unable to continue his story for whatever reason but still has plenty of content he wants to provide, why not take on like an apprentice or something like that? Is it a matter of pride? Ethics? Quality? Or some other reason?

Well, think of it this way. Whatever a creator creates it's their baby, how would you feel giving it to someone else? The biggest reason Togashi isn't working all the time is for the simple reason that he A.) doesn't want to burn out (just look at how many mangaka have to take short breaks and are hospitalized). When writing Yu Yu Hakusho he was starting to wreck his body and in those conditions still putting out chapters. He didn't like that and quickly stopped Yu Yu Hakusho and in a way quite. Obviously people begged him to come back, and he did on the condition that Hunter x Hunter would be his work and editors wouldn't poke their nose in it trying to make him to cliche's to draw in crowds. And B.) If you've read, or watch, HxH (you see it more when you read it) you have to admit that a tremendous amount of thought was put into this series. I can't even imagine how many drafts he went through plotting out and sketching the Chimera Ant arc, and the Election arc plus the Dark Continent arc have far more intellect and heavy thoughts being plotted that it has to take lots of amounts of failures to make right.

So basically, my long droll is about him taking time off so that he can get everything right, and so that he can't burn himself out like every other author. Does he take this for granted? Probably, but when you have a series that will blow people away every time you release a chapter I think he deserves it. To actually answer your question you can, I can't think of any manga that has done it, although maybe Ajin: Demi-Human since the original writer left after volume one and the artist took over writing and drawing, but its happened in books. When an author dies someone takes his place. An author helped fill in Michael Crichton's book Micro, an unfinished draft his family found after he died, so that it could be released. Robert Jordan died before completing his Wheel of Time books and Brandon Sanderson (I believe) wrote the last two off the notes he left. And lastly, George R.R. Martin is a notoriously slow writer, and has stated that he only writes when he's home and never traveling. Fans have been waiting painstakingly to read his next books for years. The TV show has now surpassed the books, and the reason why Martin hasn't upped his writing speed is simply that A.) he enjoys what he does, and with his new popularity he's enjoying mingling with the fandom, and B.) He knows if he rushes a book out just to beat the next season his work would suffer greatly, and I think Togashi is the same way. He's taking enough time to relax, plot, rewrite, and plan everything so that when he does come back all his chapters will be high quality. Togashi is the George R. R. Martin of manga, and that's okay with me.

Whether he owes it to the fans or not is a completely nother beast that I won't touch on here, simply because I feel like I may have written too much on this subject already.

*Just because I wrote a few paragraphs doesn't mean this is an angry rant. I am simply presenting evidence, and my thoughts*

If it's for quality reasons then I understand. I was just under the assumption that he physically wasn't able to continue working. Which is why I thought maybe an apprentice could do the drawing for him. Not so much an apprentice but a pair of hands that simply do whatever Togashi told him to do. That way the quality would be the same and he wouldn't have to physically hurt himself to continue drawing and what not.

Didn't he do that when HXH ended? Said he was coming back and then like 2 weeks in said he was back on hiatus.

But to be fair, the quality of the art in those 9 chapter were probably better than the art quality of the entire chimera ant arc. I am predicting him to do 1 chapter this year using a 3D printer and gold paint

First off, that's the Chimera Ant arc, any fan can argue that that was the worst arc in art form, but if you buy the physical volumes Togashi redid a lot of his chapter, granted some of them are still sketchy, but nevertheless he has redid a good chunk of it. That's why fans like to buy it, other than actually supporting their favorite series, but if you look at the last nine chapters released you can easily tell that he's taking his time putting in more details and what not.

Just as reference this is part of chapter 344 I believe:

I was not even talking about the last chapters I posted to reinforce the fact that the chimera arc looked awful. Pay attention.
