Synopsis

In the year 2072, the world's energy problems seem solved by a network of cross-dimensional electric-field inductors—"coils"—that extract energy from a seemingly infinite source. That source is the W dimension, a fourth plane that exists beyond the X, Y, and Z dimensions.

In this world, unofficial "illegal" coils harness powers that the police can't hope to counter. Dealing with these coils is the job of coil-hating repo man Kyoma, whose run-in with the unique coil android Mira leads the two to form a reluctant partnership.

And now it's out. Time to watch.

Episode 1

So Dimension W gets its name from the fourth division with the other three being labeled X, Y, and Z, and this is the key to limitless energy. Makes lots of sense. It begins with Mabuchi taking down a crime ring for producing and trading illegal coils. And on that case he meets the robot Mira, created by Dr. Yurizaki who has a grudge against New Tesla for killing his family. With Mira's father having sacrificed himself to keep his research away from New Tesla that Mira is left without any parents, and Mabuchi takes her in as she wants to hunt down all the illegal coils. That's a great way to start things off here, and certainly I like the way things start off here. There is still lots that needs to be explained, but in the grand scheme of things, it's all about getting Mabuchi and Mira together and it does a nice job at that.

Episode 1

Damn, that was great. The OP song is among one of my favorites now of this season with the stylistic artwork and choreography.

It's interesting to see Mira expressing human behavior despite being a robot. I want to know more about her past with Dr Yurizaki. Also, the action was neat too and the MC is a badass. Looking forward to more for sure. Great episode.

Damn.

Despite some strong competition, this was easily my favourite show of the season so far. I'm kind of blown away.

I've long been a cyberpunk fan so this is right up my alley in so many ways. And Mira is an easy early contender for best girl.

Even the OP and ED were great.

Amazing stuff.

Man, this was awesome. I love the idea of having what's basically a Meiji-era samurai story in a futuristic setting and the animation and soundtrack both seem pretty good so far. This also seems like an anime that is very marketable to Americans, which I assume is why Funimation was quick to jump on it. I could definitely see this as a highlight of adult swim, much more than Tokyo Ghoul anyway. The first episode kind of suffers from first episode syndrome in that almost all it does is set up the world and characters, but it made me want to see more of both of those, so it works well. My only big criticism is the fan service. Jesus Christ did that get excessive. Hopefully, it will be toned down from here on. I'm excited to see where this goes, as it is one of very few actually good new shows this season so far.

I was crossing my fingers really hard that this show would be good seeing how much FUNimation invested in it.

From the get go, you can tell why they saw potential in this anime; it has many attributes that appeal to a mainstream western audience. It's very reminiscent of Bandai shows from a decade ago.

Not sure if I'm ready to call AOTS, but I'm adding it to the list of winter 2016 anime with a strong premiere right next to Erased and Rakugo.

Hopefully, they're ready to put their A-game into the english dub if they're expecting it to be successful.

Another decent première!
That dance in the OP made me laugh . I recognise the sound as the same band that did Gangsta's OP.

I'm pretty sure they labelled the negative X dimension as the W dimension

Kyoma has one resilient neck - that crunch sound!

This just made me think of combining Astroboy and Bladerunner.
And it just makes me want a proper Battle Angel Alita series.

There's just something about this show that annoys me. I should like it, but it just bugs me. Think I would like it better without the robot girl.

I wonder what the deal with illegal coils is. Are they actually dangerous, or are generic coils a threat to the monopoly New Tesla has?

Ep 1

Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep, that's it, this might be my show. Awesome OP. It looks like a series very geared for the west which I kind of love.

The vibe reminded me of a more vibrant Gansta. Or maybe it's just them both having Stereo Dive Foundation doing the music for the OP. The male and female MCs are a nice contrast to each other, and the supporting cast is colorful/fun enough that I hope they are more than background. Promising first episode.
