First episode was great but I feel like it didn't give enough background information of the setting, like what exactly are illegal coils?

What do you mean? It went into some detail about what the could are and what they're for.

It wasn't bad. The animation was beautiful, but the fight scenes were almost cut out.

This show seems targeted at western audiences. I'll keep watching.

Episode 1: Collector

I like it. It has a good feel to it I can't really explain but its hitting all the right buttons. Got right into it, pacing was good, things were explained, and a it sets things up for the next episode really well.

Animation is on point, the designs are great, digging the OP (When he started top rocking, it reminded me of my break dancing days, also saw some Kid and Play in his footwork. He should have hit the C-Walk)

When he got slapped and his neck cracked I thought he died. Lol that sound effect just was so loud and clear. But they wouldn't do that, however that was one big bitch slap.

Anyways I liked it, looking forward to more.

Really enjoy this show already. For some reason I'm getting Expelled From Paradise vibes, and I love that movie.

Man, this was awesome. I love the idea of having what's basically a Meiji-era samurai story in a futuristic setting and the animation and soundtrack both seem pretty good so far. This also seems like an anime that is very marketable to Americans, which I assume is why Funimation was quick to jump on it. I could definitely see this as a highlight of adult swim, much more than Tokyo Ghoul anyway. The first episode kind of suffers from first episode syndrome in that almost all it does is set up the world and characters, but it made me want to see more of both of those, so it works well. My only big criticism is the fan service. Jesus Christ did that get excessive. Hopefully, it will be toned down from here on. I'm excited to see where this goes, as it is one of very few actually good new shows this season so far.

Well isn't the first episode supposed to set up the world and the characters? I mean if first episode just dove into the plot without explaining the setting and who the characters are then i think people would be pretty confused. BTW there was barely any fan service here. There was only a little fan service at the end of the episode but not enough to call it " excessive". An ecchi anime would have way more fan service than this.

I do agree that this anime is very marketable to Americans. This anime would be perfect for an adult audience to get into.

I see you are new and a younger fan / but any fanservice was really tame. Have you watched Monster Musume . Prision School ( recent animes ) I started in the 1980's and there was morre fanservice in mire shows than even now I think. Try Burn Up Excess / Dirty Pair/ This is like A PG show .

Wow! Absolute best anime premier of this season. Nikola Tesla had a vision of a world where power would be charged in the atmosphere and could be used without wires. In this world, thanks to the newly discovered dimension, this has come to pass. Companies provide this and the coils pull the power from the air, for a price, I'm sure. Why the illegal coils exist to get free power that is not under the corporation's control.
I really liked that our protagonist is old school and clings to a gasoline powered car, (a vintage Toyota 2000GT, no less,) in a world of electric driven everything.
The artwork and detailed backgrounds just blew me away. I hope they are able to keep this up throughout the series.

This looks to be a good one!

Could be one of 2 reasons, 1 to deter competition, the other that it could cause a destabilization of the power grid, which could be bad.

The first episode is supposed to set up the world and characters yes, but it should do more than just that. We do get a cool chase scene but everything else is just pure setup, and hat gets old fairly quickly. I don't know what you're talking about there barely being any fanservice, the little girl is naked for almost the entirety of the last quarter of the episode, plus the camera focuses directly on her butt for no reason at other points. I mean the first time I can understand that because it was showing the tail coming out and hat angle looks cool. I agree that an ecchi anime would have way more but that is just the nature of the genre. I haven't sen any of the marketing for this advertise it as such.
