Episode 3: I Just Got A Little Fired Up

Ohhh nice got a little more action this time around with the matches. The first half was pretty tame though just setting up for the matches and introducing Ichinose (i.e Hinata's neighbor)

The matches were fun to watch. You know, even if they just score one point I get excited cause they are going up against a top tier team. Just looking at the experience gap and seeing these newcomers score is a victory in itself.

Really wanted to see Hinata vs Shindou, maybe one day. Hopefully they explain what happened to Hinata and why he left the game. He must have been one of the best.

Anyways good episode. Got more matches and explained some techniques used in the game like Low/High Yo Yo, Scissors. They are implementing things in a way that is fun and not infodump like.

I'm not sure how seriously I can take this anime when every time they say "flying circus" I start humming the Monty Python theme. It's a real mood killer!

Just for reference to those who are not aware these are techniques used in real fighter aircraft combat, albeit primarily pre jet era.

I wanna see some Immelman turns and hammerheads now!

Episode 3

Overkill...

Yeah, our characters and their team have a loooong way to go before they start taking shots at other teams. The matches were cool, so that's always fun to look at!

A few episodes in and I'm liking this one better than I was at the start. With more characters getting room to breathe and a little bit of action things are looking up. I really wish this would be one series where the uber talented but "retired for some mysterious reason" MC actually stayed retired though I highly doubt that's going to be the case.

Episode 4

Misaki is a pro and Asuka is getting better. But as for Mashiro, she is being left in the dust and the thought of Misaki being too far ahead didn't sit well. Luckily, she bumped into Rika who was more than willing to help her out. But in the end, she changed classes from a fighter to a speedster type to take advantage of her small frame. With that, she's now the second best player on the team having surpassed Mashiro. That's a nice way to develop Mashiro's character here seeing that she was so fixated on Mashiro that she lost sight of everything else.

Oh Mashiro. Her delusions. I hope she doesn't forget about Misaki from now on.

On another note, who is that girl at the end? I don't remember her. My bet is that she is a prodigy or something at Flying Circus. (the OP song featured her more than some of the other side characters)

Episode 4: Meat Makes Me Happy

That was a good way to develop Mashiro's character. This show cares about its supporting characters. But yeah I know that feel about being left behind while everyone is progressing faster than you are.

Ooohhhhhhh she's cheating on Misaki. Lol jk but good on Rika who is from the rival school to help her out like that. Also it was good that she found her own play style rather than trying to follow Misaki's footsteps.

Also when did Asuka get so good? She did a backflip and surprised her self. She has hidden talent. Can't wait until she can fully control herself and wreck the competition.

That new girl at the end...she's fast, you see how far she was and came back to catch the phone? Anyways looking forward to her introduction.

I have to admit that I watch this show mainly because it's fun.

No worrying about aliens trying to end humanity. No crazed teenagers deciding that just causing you to loose XP when they kill someone in a VR game doesn't cut it any more, and set out to become a serial killer IRL. No cute girls secretly fighting a loosing battle against cancer.

Just normal teenagers, admittedly with access to some rather impressive technology, having fun being in a club for the sport / competition that has developed due to affordable and safe flying shoes.

And Episode 4 didn't disappoint me.

You're got characters complaining about how hard their exams are, and a girl who's fallen a bit behind in her club practice due to having to take some extra exams to bring her marks up. And of course, there's that one student who manages to be attractive, have a positive personality, be great at sports, and still manages to get near perfect marks in all of her classes. (It's a good thing that Misaki's feline verbal ticks amuse so much, or my jealousy of a fictional character would most likely curdle into hatred. I still remember being told by someone I knew that the school couldn't give her her actual Math mark that year, because - due to bonus questions - she ended up with 103 percent! )

You've got the main cast's designated ditz (Asuka) once again showing us that she's an idiot savant when it comes to physical activities related to flight and the Flying Circus.

Mashiro feels - understandably - that she's falling behind the other flyers in the club. However, she decides (out of pride, possibly?) not to ask the other members of her school's club to help her improve herself. Instead she asks someone she only casually knows, who's attending the school that's considered to have the best Flying Circus club / team in the region. And, even though they'll be on different teams when the upcoming tournament comes around, Rika still agrees to help Mashiro! (Maybe things are different in Japan, but - while I free admit to not being the most athletic of individuals - I have trouble believing that this would actually happen IRL. At least here in North America. Then again, it's a new club so maybe Rika feels she's helping to promote the sport she likes without posing any real threat to her own school's dominance of the area's Flying Circus competitions?)

Mashiro does improve over a week of (hard) training with Rika, which also results in a friendship between the two of them. At least part of her improvement comes from realizing that she should play to her strengths, instead of just trying to be like her beloved sempai, Misaki. The other members of her school's Flying Circus club are happy to see that she's improved so much.

The next episode looks like it's going to be the beginning of the summer tournament.

A white hair quiet character has shown up. *bows head* I'm sorry Sensei but such characters are always my favourites.

Anyone notice the wings on her shoes were bat wings? Looking forward to seeing if there's any meaning to that.

After seeing he latest episode I ca conclude that this is definitely a decent sports anime. Not really all that good, the presentation is very lacking, but the writing and the intricacy of the fictional sport are both competent enough to keep me coming back.
