Never did any of that in school. They already did make a school life show that was as realistic as it gets for me - it was called Watamote.

Watamote was a little too close to home for me.

Anyway, how to improve school life shows? In my opinion, they should actually focus on the schooling. On trying to pay attention in class. On the challenges of studying. On the anxiety around tests. Maybe have certain characters mesh will with certain teachers and not so well with others. Show the real drama that is trying to do well in school. Japan could do this far better what with their focus on cram schools and cultural expectations for success.

I've always thought that Assassination Classroom does a pretty good job of this, which is pretty ironic considering its plot and premise.

Solution: Do what Golden Time did and make a show about university life instead.

Me as well. There were times where, from experience, I knew what was coming and had to pause the video to mentally prepare myself to witness it.

A. Most kids do not do that in the US.

B. Most People Hate The Jerry Springer Show.

C. Japan has a far more homogeneous culture than we do, bereft of the diversity of the US.

D. Drugs laws in Japan are very severe.

Why would I give up an idealized romance for trashy teenage melodrama not unlike School Days where the characters actually do have sex? Why would most people give a damn whether or not Sekai is pregnant? She's trash, Kotonoha is trash, Makoto is trash, everyone is trash!

Not to say that this genre doesn't have merits, it just isn't my cup of tea.

no offense but people like you is whats killing the anime industry. the Japanese need to grow a pair.

What, by telling you that real Japanese schools are fascistically conservative in their student-conduct rules, and you don't want to hear it?
If you want fantasies of chains and switchblades, go watch Battle Royale!
(Which is supposed to be a frustrated-student wet-dream in the first place....)

Or, as noted, at least Assassination Classroom, where they can enjoy a fantasy sci-fi premise of killing the teacher.

I hontsly would really disapprove of drugs, Sex and other stuff in highschool due too it's bring some serious misguidce and I'm never had these things happen too me. I mean how school life is, is how it should be, an excellent one is acttly I am (I whould check it out it's really funny and cute) I mean the whole anime is around a highschool not some kinda drug war.

The only thing they could do is make a slice of life actually about a slice of Japanese life. That means no harems, no lame slapstick, no moe, and no fan service. It could be interesting, as the writers would be forced to create something quite original.

we all know theres too many out there so could they be better? I feel like I haven't seen real life depicted in shows like that. kids like to get high, drunk, have sex, skip school. are the Japanese too naive?

You mean like /flowers-of-evil ?

Episode 1 needs a little patience, it starts getting good in episode 2.

Are you saying is that's what you want to see in anime? There are already tons of movies from Hollywood that depict that kind of school life.

If anime turns school life like you described, I wouldn't like it. It's not Japanese to me. Japanese people have a different culture than in the West, so that's what I expect to see depicted in their anime.
I'm glad they continue to keep it like that too because that's what makes so school life interesting in Japan.
Doesn't it make you want to go to school in Japan?? I would love to be a high school student in Japan!!!!!!!

Well I don't know about drugs and getting drunk, but just about every other visual novel has some sort of high school setting..... People in the west don't grasp what the vn market is like.... and plenty of vns become anime but are toned down most of the time, not always though.

There are two shows that were remade for American audiences that originated from the UK. Those being Skins and Shameless.. It's not a side of youth I'd particularly want to see in anime as it grew tiring in my own life. :P

to be honest all I'm asking for is for a group of friends to sit around and smoke pot. talk about whatever and go on with their daily lives. it doesn't have to be like the movie Kids but enough of the guy that cant control his boner and spits blood out his nose

Maybe you should learn some about the country of origin of anime before you make asinine American youth "gimme what I want!"-type comments... So basically you want to go from a teenage guy who is sexually aroused by the gender he is interested in (which is basically, well, EVERY teenage guy) and "can't control his boner" as you put it, to some guy(s) who instead of having real fun with their lives turn stupid crap into "fun" thanks to a plant they smoke because they "can't control their drug habit". If you want to see some bums who are going nowhere with their liberal arts degree get high on pot, go to your nearest college campus and just walk a lap through the grounds, and you'll find like, 10 groups of them. I, on the other hand, will continue to enjoy my perfectly enjoyable slice of life school anime that focuses on the natural fun of youth, instead of a bunch of losers who are so wangsty that they can only find joy through hurting themselves.

obviously you think youre in the majority. as someone that used to smoke pot ive always wondered why its non-existent in anime. now I read your pathetic comment and wonder, "wow, the Japanese have us nerds by the balls". you can have your own opinion but I find it pathetic how people like you cling to the trash that some call "good cartoons". quit watching SpongeBob and Sailor Moon, youll thank me for it
