Let me know if a thread like this one exist or not.
Thanks a bunches.

Explain your opinion in great detail.

Tell me what makes a good character for a story? How does one define a good character? Do you know any "good" flaws that I can give a character? Does making a character feel human work? Got any advice?

If you're going to list flaws, then put them in a spoiler box.

Enjoy!!!

Make them relatable. Also, make them catgirls.

In a lot of shonnen the characters are pure of heart idiots who like to eat a lot.
They're also frienldy and always look on the bright side and they have good rivals to challenge them

I don't think I want a character like that.

Make sure the character has both strengths and weaknesses (nobody likes Gary Stu). Try to also give them a believable backstory; something that a reader can see themselves experiencing (unless the story is epic fantasy-esque.)

Basically, the idea is to create a character that the readers can see themselves in, who's experiences and traits they can relate to. Make a character that the reader can understand.

Also, I swear making them catgirls will make them more relatable.

You need to consider what makes a good character within the context of a story. What exactly is this story going for? If the story primarily meant to be little more than a package of verbal spectacle then often times characters that help facilitate the next explosion or whatever are preferred. Someone who is decisive, red-headed, maybe thinking before they act and devoid of angst often work better here. Want a drama that's a bit more about romance? Then yes, someone who's relate-able and has very clearly defined strengths and weaknesses work well. Point in case, Kamina might have worked well in Gurren Lagann, but would probably feel out of place in a series like Death Note.

Relationships between other characters matter a lot; very rarely can a character pull an entire series on their own merits.

Good backstory, interesting personality, solid character development, well developed relationship with other characters (good or bad).

It sounds simple, but is so hard to find.

Some of my favorite characters include Kumagawa (The good loser), Gasai Yuno, and Ikki Kurogane.
