I was poking fun at my British friend calling her a "Cynical Brit." She sent me this link:
http://www.gotoquiz.com/how_cynical_are_you

I came out as 86% cynical. I am a Universal Cynic.

"You don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt. You are always looking for the hidden insult in what others say to you and assume the worst of people you don't know as well. You probably think of yourself as witty and realistic, while others see you as just plain."

You don't care about people, whether you know them or not. You probably don't care about this test or very many other things in life. Sometimes things are just easier when you don't care.

You tend to assume the worst of people you have never met but only heard about. Many far sided cynics think of themselves as realists. But you also tend to give those close to you the benefit of the doubt. Which is healthier for your personal relationships.

Well this is correct to a degree.

I've mentioned somewhere on a forum "Live and Die for Anime"

Basically the only real thing I care for other than a few best friends.

While they nailed that I give no one the benefit of the doubt, the questions are fundamentally flawed.

#4, for example, "What do you think of young, single mothers, who go on welfare so they can use the money from their baby to move out on their own?" There is no option for "I form my opinions on a case-to-case basis because generalizations of such sweeping scale are impossible."

#5 "When listening to someone you know sing or otherwise perform in public, which do you usually do?" Where is the option for "Cringe painfully, internally criticize, and hope they don't ask my opinion?" Also assumes answering party HAS friends, so I think a "I'm too cynical for people" choice would have been appropriate here.

#10 "What do you think about women who choose to have elective abortions?" ...this is so obviously lacking in choices for answers. Where's Option D "Good for them not having children they neither want nor can care for!" or even Option E, "Been there, done that, would abort quiz creator/10."

You give the the benefit of the doubt to most groups of people you have never met. It's easier to like someone and rationalize someone's behavior if you don't know them personally. Towards those who you know more personally you tend to assume the worst about their intentions and find problems and insults where none were necessarily intended. If you can take some of the same tendencies you have towards groups of people you've never met, and put them towards people close to you -- you might find life gets easier. The upside to not trusting those around you is that you're not easily taken advantage of.
