This really isn't a major problem; it's just that I've observed news articles sometimes mention the existence of more comments below the article then those that actually appear.

Take this recent article for example: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2016/01/14-1/yakuza-kiwami-inspires-limited-edition-playstation-4-in-japan

At the time of posting a total of three comments are listed but when I look at the page my comment is the only one that I see.

I tried searching through the archive and I couldn't find any similar thread talking about this issue. So, does anyone know what could account for these phantom comments?

Is the counter simply recording indexing programs from Google or Yahoo that happened to find that page?

Does the system still count comments that have been deleted?

Or is this discrepancy caused by something else entirely?

Like I said, this isn't a major problem. Whether this glitch is resolved or not won't have a major impact on how I use Crunchyroll. Still, if only for curiosities sake, it would be interesting to find out just what is going on in these news articles.

Yes, it still counts deleted comments. We have some malicious ad spam in comments these days, which we immediately delete.

Oh I see, thanks for clearing that up. It's a pity that Crunchyroll is being bombarded by so much spam but I'm glad it's swiftly being removed.
