I usually set an alarm for myself at the time I want to get up when this happens. After that just power through the day no matter how tired you are, then everything's fixed.
The problem is getting up with the alarm.

Anytime I have something planned I usually can't sleep for some reason. I end up binge watching anime till like 6 in the morning. Then I feel tired, but I can't go to sleep. I've screwed myself over so many times like that.

My sleep cycles are overly sensitive, I can train it to 6/9 hours sleep a night but if one night I decide to stay up to 2/3am or what have you then I'm in disarray for nearly 2 weeks trying to re-sync it, happens way to often when I overthink stuff.. ughh..

Having no sleep trouble anymore, I get up early every day now and never sleep in, I even get up at 7am at the weekend.
Just make sure you don't get an overabundance of sleep, it's not healthy and it may even be the problem. You should try and get up at the same time every day (even if you couldn't sleep)

I know the root of my sleep problems, but I'm not willing to remove it.

I have alot of problems with sleeping. I work horrible hours, i get up at 5:10 am and start work at 6:15am.
Its horrible. Iam always tired. I often go straight to sleep as soon as i get home from work, its ok if its a short nap but when its a big sleep it stuffs me up becasue i cant sleep later.
Sometimes i fight it for a couple hours then have a nap and wake up late...
Other times i fight it but then i get my second wind and am not tired later, or i go to bed early and cant sleep...
Also if i have a big weekend where i stay up all night Saturday and sleep in late Sunday, its the same problem..
And it sucks when i wake up early Sunday without bugger sleep but cant get back to sleep becasue my time clock..

Sometimes i drink so that can effect sleep. And sometimes i eat too late so that can effect sleep.
I think sometimes after a big gaming sesh it can be hard to shut your mind down also.

I am a very light sleeper also. Any noise or light and i cant sleep...

EDIT: even though my body clock due to my shit work hours can make me wake up early, i still really do feel overal i sleep alot better when i have no alarm set.
I wake up several times throughout the night and check the time to see how long i have before my alarm goes off..(not every night but very often).

I mostly work through the day and go shooting 3-4 nights a week so I only ever really get 4-6 hours sleep on average a night and if I'm struggling to get to sleep I usually make myself a cup of Tetley's Extra Strong Black Tea with a shot of Single Malt Whisky in it.

My problem is sleep paralysis. I wake up unable to move once a month on average. Luckily, I've only seriously hallucinated twice, and it's fairly easy to shake off.
