Post Reply Do you think we should have a vote to which simulcasts Crunchyroll should get for each season?

First of all I'm a big anime-fan and keen on seasonal simulcasts. As a premium member for several seasons, I started to find that I kept missing many excellent shows here and there are some shows that are obviously not that much worth to watch. So I am wondering that it may be perfect if Crunchyroll can presents a list of possible shows before each season and hold surveys for our members to decide which one we should buy. Therefore members can be better satisfied and less money would be wasted on some shows.
Also, I would suggest a Danmaku system on streaming. I enjoyed it on NicoNico a lot and I believe Crunchyroll members can do well on it.
How do you guys think?

Crunchy bids on streaming everything, every quarter. If they could get everything they would. But Funimation also bids on some shows, and since they also add in extra licensing fees for doing dubs and getting disk distribution rights, that allows them to outbid CR whenever they are interested. Most often they ask for and get exclusivity because of the higher price they are trying to recoup with the additional hard media sales.

Other lesser competitors who get some shows exclusively lately are The Anime Network, Hulu, and Netflix. The latter two have deep pockets with millions of subscribers, and CR has no chance against them. Good thing they don't try for even more. Not sure how TAN got a couple this year though, they are roughly on CR's level.

But, it's capitalism, pure and simple. If it was a communist dictatorship, then one player could get everything, but it's not. You don't see all TV shows on one single network, either. Streaming anime is the same, sort of.

It wouldn't matter how we vote, they get what they can. Just recently, they have partnered with a Japanese company to get in in the production committees, which should let them get rights earlier and more surely. We'll see how that plays out...

Mostly what asharka says. However, I did see that Crunchyroll ran a poll recently related to upcoming shows (shortly before winter season began I believe)--it would pop up when you visited the home page. That may have influenced how they bid on things, but I can't say for sure.

I see what you said. And so what I mean is to have a section about this probably on the home page, which may also help promote people to join the membership. There is definitely competition on the rights of streaming and I would predict doing this way can help out quite a bit since there is a clear data for staffs to plan out their strategy. Of course they don't need to show the results out before the season so that other sites won't use it in competing with them. And as long as Crunchyroll now is one of the largest sites in this area in the US, I feel confident that at least they can get a large portion of the wanted shows, and that is enough for its fans.
