Use a farmers' scythe. Most scythes used on the battle field were straightened out farm tools made to look like a pike with a concave edge.

Ancient swords discovered in strange places with no maintenance can't stand up against a newly forged sword that is well oiled.

I also don't think I can recall a single anime character wielding a rapier who was also using a buckler. You'd think they would, but they don't seem to.

6. Holding the third sword in your mouth

7. Triple sword wielding isn't possible

8. Telling your opponents what you're going to do

9. Explaining your techniques to your opponents

there are many things I didn't mention, but I had to limit it to 5, and not wielding a buckler in some scenarios actually is ok, sure, it's not the smartest loadout, but there are cases of people using only a rapier.

Oh, sure. Sometimes you even sub a dagger, or just keep your arm behind your back, or even throw some chain mail over your hand and slap blades away with your offhand. There are lots of ways to do it. I just noticed that I can't remember anyone doing it that particular way.

Shields are boring yo, why would anime characters use them, eh.. they'd be an actual realistic way to draw out battles though.

Yeah, I prefer not to use a shield in my martial arts style as it weighs me down too much, for me it's "less defense, so much attack there's no way anyone can counter" Shields are practical, and if I went for a more defensive approach, I would use a shield.

True, in life threatening situations like some anime, shields would be good, but they hamper training too much.

7-8 minute sword fights can happen but not between noobs, unless both are horrible. 2 people that are good enough can block most attacks and then attack, however usually such fights only happen with shields when no one is able to get past the other's defenses. It is 7-8 minutes of trying to find a hole in the opponents guard.,

Am I the only going to point out the fact it's been quite awhile since any large scale conflict involving melee weaponry as it's large focus has been fought. So all your opinions are based on historical records and perhaps at best some sparring in a Fencing, Kenjustu, or HEMA club. Not exactly the best foundation to draw upon to say one thing is incorrect or correct. Only a battlefield experience or fights to the death really teach anything about what may or may not work.
