Picked it up today at Best Buy today on special - $4.00 OFF (WOOPIE) . Hooked it up & I couldn't link it to my account , site was down . It finally came up around 10 pm & linked it . After installing all my channels I tested out Netflix and.....no 5.1 DD output ! Same issue as the Roku 2 & 3 series . Why bother putting an optical cable on if it won't send a proper signal . All I get is stereo Oh , but the "salesman" (I use that term loosely) said it would work . My Blu-ray player will send it , Xbox 360 and my PC with Windows 8.1 will also do 5.1 over optical but not Roku . They are still "looking into it" . 2 generations later & they still can't fix it . Off to BB I go tomorrow , too bad the Amazon Fire dropped the optical off the latest unit .

Have you tried a nexus player, or something other than the Roku?

Personally I never saw the point of anything like the Roku.. I mean it's not like there isn't a million other things that do the same job and better to boot.

Xbox streaming master race.
I had a Roku, but I got rid of it because CR took too long to update the app.

My parents still have a non-HD CRT . . . I think a basic Roku that still support composite killing off the cable bill would be nice for them. It's also likely better than the majority of Smart TV electronics out there.

Wait a second like old school CRT..damn at least pick them up a used flat screen. They usually have a VGA input and with even a cheap laptop they can stream to their heart's content..all for under hell 500 bucks if you can get the laptop on sale.

I've used Apple TV's ever since they came out and never had any issues with them whatsoever. Right now I'm using the Apple TV 3 and it streams in 1080p with 5.1 without any lagging or issues. I want to get a new Apple TV sometime soon
