The same scientist that helped demote Pluto may be on track to finding a 9th planet in the solar system.

What is everyone's opinion?

Possible but not yet proven. Multi-body effects would almost certainly have kicked several planets out of the early solar system. Some may remain in high-periapsis orbits. Less likely than them being kicked out entirely, but still quite possible. Let's wait and see; their technique is interesting and I do hope they are right.

I've seen papers before showing models of the current solar system make more sense if an extra gas giant is added, and then ejected, during planetary formation.

With a good idea of where to look, and what to look for, it will not take long to confirm or disprove.

Isn't it supposed to have a 36,000 year orbit and at some point it comes close enough to earth that we should be able to see it would modern telescopes I think the ancients talked about in some of their texts a long time ago its nothing new just something that's been re discovered

It's orbit is predicted to lay entirely outside of Neptune's.

Existing telescopes should be able to spot it, regardless of current position, but only the largest have the resolution to directly image the planet if it is at aphelion.

^This.
Although we do have Eris as well which I believe is slightly larger than Pluto, so we should probably include that if we're counting Pluto.

This isn't anything new, right?
There has been speculation about the existence of a ninth planet a.k.a planet x, for over a century now.

Heh, maybe they'll announce evidence of a planet with a nitrogen/oxygen atmosphere next week
