While it's been becoming more popular, it seems like anime is generally poorly regarded by those that don't watch it. In many cases it seems this is for unfair reasons stemming from ignorance (a common reason being that, because hentai exists, all anime is assumed to be hentai - granted, the prevalence of fan service and panty shots doesn't help that case, but not every show does that stuff).

So, of media that is maligned, is anime the one that is most commonly maligned for things it doesn't do?

Yes, when it gets discussed. Sometimes it gets good press, like when NPR reviewed Death Note back in 07 or 08. But the media is mostly Rick Wilson when it comes anime I think.

Though I think video games are probably maligned the most in terms of frequency.

It's a little bit ironic considering the growing industry of non Japanese cartoon porn there is nowadays as well.

Considering I got called a weaboo by a Barnes & Noble employee just for asking if they had a certain series back in stock...

I'd say yes.

Seems like it. Mostly due to ignorance. Anime haters usually think it's either all hentai, all kids cartoons, or all Chinese propaganda. It's not even from China, the morons....

I did. I got a $100 gift card for it, but I won't be going back to that store any time soon.

Yeah, there's a time and place for comments like that.

While working your retail customer service job, is not one of them.
