What image editing program are you using, or what options do you have? If all you have is windows paint, you can't save images with transparency.

Well, I gave it a little look, and unless it's already in your version you will need a plugin to save .ico files... and if you're lucky it'll support the transparency layer. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the program.

Create a picture and save it as a .ico file. Then right click the object and then properties then click on customize and change icon. Browse to where you saved the image. If you don't see the image you didn't save it as a .ico file.

Edit: It's .ico not .icon my fault. Also, it must be in 24-bit bitmap.

ok i got it but why does it keep making the BG black?

Are you making the picture yourself or are you printing the screen or grabbing a certain image? When you make it yourself it should be fine. It could be a watermark or something that is corrupting the original image. Either that or there is some blend in the pixel and it just chooses the default of black or white and since the image is probably not white it chooses black. I just made a few images myself and they all turned out fine with no black. When I took a small screenshot and pasted it into Microsoft Paint it was corrupted.

Edit: I assume you are using Microsoft Paint. If you have other imaging software you can use other images you didn't make yourself but I don't think you can using Microsoft Paint itself.
