So I've been a Premium member for years, and I had my subscription renew monthly but a couple days after Christmas I decided to save some money and switch to a yearly renewal...

I went into my account clicked on the drop-down menu, selected yearly subscription, and finally clicked change..... and found that it wasn't possible to change.

I went to the Contact us option (Which was made harder to find then it used to be) told them my problem, and was told roughly "It's not a problem, it's a feature", and that I had to turn off auto renew, and wait till my previous subscription ran out...

I did as they asked, had it run out, and went back to renew it only to find that I had to both re-enter my Credit Card info, and wait for a free membership (they're losing money there)to expire, and then finally it would be renewed at the yearly rate.....

What is the point of the drop-down menu (See purple) if you have to do all this other stuff! all you had to do was make the drop-down menu change what it would renew as when it went to next renew the subscription, this wastes your time, gives me another free trial, and overall just wastes a perfectly simple drop-down menu by limiting it's use to only when you pick your first membership after joining...

We changed some parts of the credit card subscription system in late 2014/early 2015. Switching the renewal type or plan of subscriptions that were migrated from the old system, such as yours, does not work as far as I know. But as you noticed, you were able to do it with your new subscription - which is why the selector is there.

So because my account was from an older system, I couldn't make use of the drop-down menu? so that menu is usable for new users to change on the fly, so to speak, and old users as well once they let there old account subscription expire once?

Yes, sorry about that.
