Pretty much, like other countries in that part of the world they experience earthquakes on a daily basis and most of their buildings are designed to withstand them.
The only reason it even made the news was because the epicenter of the quake was fairly close to Anchorage and it was indeed a quite powerful one. The more common quakes are 2~4 on the richter scale and are so common that most people don't even feel them.

A tidal wave hitting Anchorage is also quite unlikely by the way.
