I don't know how this major or minor stuff works but I'll have my bachelor in IT in about a year and a half.

In the US, your major is the program of courses that you follow to get your degree. So while you're in school, you are majoring in xxx, after you graduate, then you have your bachelors in xxx. A minor is taking a certain number of courses in a discipline other than your major. Generally it requires somewhere between 1/4-1/2 the courses as would be required for a major in that subject. It's not something that's required but it recognizes the commitment to take that many courses in a subject other than your major. For example, my degree reads something along the lines of "Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Japanese"

Thank you I had no idea how the US system worked. I'd have a major in IT and a minor in history I guess.

We don't have majors/minors in my course but it's paediatric nursing.

I hope to specialise in a specific field, possibly cystic fibrosis so I can get away from the bedside. That would be awhile after graduation though

I'm starting university this upcoming September. I'll be reading Law with American Law or European Legal Studies (just need to wait until I seat my exams and get the results to have a firm choice). We don't have minors.
