So I have recently watched Angel Beats for the first time out of recommendation from a friend. She told me it would make me cry and all that and it was rather sad but nothing to lose my head over or anything. However there is one thing I noticed.... Why does everyone in the Angel Beats "fandom" hate it so much. I've been to other message boards where people are discussing the show and whether or not there will be another season and everyone seems so hostile! why is that, I'd love to know

Humans using the Internet now have instant access to voicing their opinions basically anonymously to a large mass of people.

But for Angel Beats specifically, it's good, but also has several flaws, so there are plenty of critiques to go with it.

And the more popular something is, the more hate it will generate from those who don't like it.

I don't think haters can be considered part of the fandom...

It's a deeply flawed anime since it crammed two cours worth of plot into one. Also it's really a very ham fisted attempt by Jun Maeda as far as the shows feels are concerned. It is a really damn nice looking anime though, with a killer sound track. The PA Works quality does redeem it quite a bit. And some of the storylines are pretty good (though still too damn short).

That being said, I don't really notice a giant and rabid haterbase for it... From my experience people seem more ambivalent towards it at this point than anything. I mean, it is nearly 6 years old now. Maybe those forums you visited are just troll havens in general

I liked Angle Beats (yes I might of shed a tear), but I thought it was good. I've never read the manga, if there is one.

My only real issue with it was that it seemed like they were going to give us a bit on everyone's background and how they got there, then try and help them pass on, but they didn't. There might be more things, but I've only watched it once.

I do agree that it was quite rushed. By the time ep 9 rolled around I thought they were just gonna end it there and then when ep 10 came about I was like they are not going to be able to finish this without doing a second season but they did manage to jam most of it in there.

As for the trolls it is very possible that they were just all over that particular topic (it was a discussion about if there will be a season 2 or not).

A lot of people complained the end was rushed, and apparently this was because their budget ran out or something but they didn't find out until episode 8 or 9. That was why the last bit was so rushed.

If they didn't find out until after 8 or 9 it totally makes sense then because as I was watching ep 9 I was thinking "how the hell are they gonna fit all this stuff into 12 ep?!" and then after that I was like.... oh thats how hahah

Hey, just be glad it's not like Charlotte where they could've ended it on episode 11 but then gave it one more episode with an entire season's worth of plot.

I doubt they ran out of money during development. They animate things for a pretty specific programming block ahead of time, and in this case it was a single season. Making horrendous financial blunders like that are way more in GAINAX's wheelhouse than PA Works

I think the problem really lied in the fact that they were trying to make a franchise out of the thing, and it was just super super derivative and generic in how they went about trying to mass market the appeal. Maybe it was because it was the first Key animation work that was made after with another studio than Kyoto Animation in quite a while, but they ended up borrowing way too much from other series like Haruhi Suzumiya, and all the other Key works (Clannad/Kanon/Air).
