That's rough, Ranwolf. I'm sorry. Legit. On top of the war? I'm sorry, man.

Ya get use to, besides it's kind of the fate a lot of First Nations suffer. I am not any worse off then any of them. I just hope one day to have a child and teach them Nehinawewin so some part of my people and the grand aunt who taught me the language live on after I am dead.

Seems to be the attitude most folks who came back have. I'd have come with, but they told me no. So, sorry I couldn't help. Anyway, I hope the language lives on. As someone who loves languages as a study (that's my own weapons history atop psychopharmacology) I don't want to see any languages vanish.

Ya can either let it destroy you or you can rise above it. Not saying it's easy, even for me some days are better then others. As for the language of my people it might just die off one sad day. So few of my people show little interest in learning it even when I offer to teach them. So far the only two students I have are White and Asian. Fellow soldiers the both of them to

I've not lived it, but I've seen its results. I have people close to me who've survived IEDs, and while they were lucky enough to have the armour absorb all the physical damage, the mental damage shows. I know exactly what you mean, if only indirectly. You stay strong as best you can.

Are there written records? Archives?

But I'm not trying to be funny, or playing counselor. I'm just passing blessings on and offering sympathy. I don't understand the joke.

Can't say I hate anything about my family members but probably the least favorite thing I could point out for them is:

My mother is too emotional.
My younger brother is naive.
My father worries too much.

Plenty of both, some of my people cared enough to develop a written language for Nehinawewin. I am told this was quite the feat considering my people never developed a written language before or after the Europeans showed up. And others put it out there in the only immortality information will ever know, cyber space. Perhaps the language and some of the culture will survive but the are only part of what makes a people a people. The willingness to embrace both is what makes a people a people and so far only genetics makes a Nehiraw these days a Nehiraw since so few of them embrace their culture or language.

Most of them are too busy pretending their white despite their skin colour and history.

It's probably me, I'v been accused of being too serious all the time. Some people tend to mock me for this.

That's true, and it's good that they put down whatever they did. Did they have a tendency toward oral histories and bards? Would they be amenable to having performances of rituals and stories put down on video? I saw an aged master of the martial art I practice perform for the Emperor of Japan and allow himself to be recorded so our way could survive the test of time (as long as we've media to play the recording, anyway ), so maybe that would help?

Nah, you're alright. Could you bear to stop labeling people as subhuman? In my opinion, yes. But I see where it comes from, so I don't loathe you for it. I understand it even if I don't agree.

Yes my ancestors were quite inclined to oral histories. It's one of the many reasons I consider learning history to be a sacred duty really. A Nehiraw of the past would have been expected to learn and remember the entire history of his family and tribe. As for recording the rituals and stories of my people..Not so long ago that would be have been considered a minor insult but times have changed and recently an increase in recording and documenting such things has happened. I suppose if for no other reason so that hopefully the children or grand children etc of the current uncaring generation might reclaim their cultural legacy.

As for my attitude to the world at large. Perhaps one day I might lose the anger that compels me to see some examples of humanity as less then worthy of life but it's not going to happen any time in the near future is all I can promise.
