What Is The difference about a nerd and a geek?

Urban Dictionary wrote:

NERD: A person who gains pleasure from amassing large quantities of knowledge about subjects often too detailed or complicated for most other people to be bothered with.

Often mistaken for Geeks, who aspire to become nerds, yet lack the intelligence, and end up giving nerds a bad name due to their poor social skills.

Non-nerds are often scared of nerds, due to their detailed knowledge, and therefore seemingly high levels of intelligence - and subsequently denegrate them as much as possible as often as possible.

Nerds exist covertly within the fabric of society, often choosing to 'nerd it up' in private or in the company of fellow nerds. It is for this reason they are feared the most - unlike geeks, who are easily identified, nerds can only be found out when casual conversation reaches a subject that they like nerding.

Geek: "I am a nerd"
Nerd: "Let's bash this nerd"

Nerd: "That'll teach you to go playing with my tesla coil"

hmm....So I wonder why Geeksquad was named geeksquad if they could just be nerdsquad..

I think.

Both nerds and geeks can have bad social skills. On the other hand sometimes they have good social skills but prefer not to socialize because they are more interested in something else. They usually are very social with their friends but refrein from acting up in public.

Aren't geeks people who act socially awkward or socially have unpopular/inferior social skills?

While nerds are people who are into something so much (probably a behavior or hobby that is socially looked down on or unpopular) that it might sometimes interfere with their social life?

It was a quick guess.

The terms were created by so called "alfa males" (too much brawn, not enough brain) because they didn't want to be inferiour to smarter yet usually weaker people. That ended up in becoming insulting titles to those who are smart including both men and women. Thats just how human psychology works.

Here are some close differences to better identify both>>

1- >> Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities or esoteric knowledge rather than engaging in more social activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers.
>> The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual".[1] Formerly, the term referred to a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken, bat or snake. The 1976 edition of the American Heritage Dictionary included only the definition regarding geek shows.
(both definitions are straight from wikipedia lol)

2- you can use both to insult someone, also nerd is an insult but geek can be =P

3- lastly notable is that>> nerd is 100% a negative thing, but the word geek which means "weird" can be "positive" or "negative", depends.

If you still wanna know more, just go to wikipedia and read more about the 2 words.. and no, am not a geek nor a nerd, but I know that much lol. or maybe...

Dork is a person with bad social skills and sometimes bad hygiene skills. They are not allways very smart but can't be called stupid.
Dweeb is just an insult for a physicaly week person.
