So basically, here's the situation. I was walking back to my dorm and I found $4 on the sidewalk, all $1 bills. Now, I could've taken it, but I felt dirty. Even though it was only $4. Now, I proceed to call the security office and the guy that answered seemed super annoyed when I called (which I would be too) but I didn't want to take it. I didn't want anyone else to take it. Who knows how long it was there... I saw some people pass by and no one else was taking it.

Now if it were $400, holy crap what a big deal! I still wouldn't take it and would do the same thing I did for the $4. The guy came and picked it up (still with an annoyed tone of voice to match his now annoyed face), and said he'd put it in the lost and found. But he could take that money... but I didn't I guess is the important thing.

So the question is... am I stupid? Should I have taken it? Left it there? What would you do in this situation? Maybe I could've taken it and spent it on someone else to be nice? But again, that could've been someone's lunch money or something.

I wouldn't do the same for coins though... but otherwise to me money is money. If it's a bill of any kind and there's a lot of them, I'm turning it in. But when I walked in the building, a girl asked me what happened and she said she would've done the same thing. So HAH! At least one person is on my side!

I personally would've just picked it up (Assuming it was clean) and buy food for a homeless guy. I don't think you should think too much about it, your intentions weren't bad or anything.

To be fair.

It's up to you.

I'd take it. But if you don't take it doesn't make you stupid.

Depends on the lost and found policy. Where I work if you turn cash in and no one shows up to claim it in a certain number of days they just use it to cover company expenses, whereas if I turn money in to the local police and no one claims it, then I get the cash.

It was just 4 dollars. Not necessarily enough to generally make a big deal out of someone's day.

I would have taken it. If you were that hard pressed about it, you could have just donated it.

It's only 4 bucks, I probably would've just taken it or left it there. I dont think you're stupid for doing that though.

Nope, you're not stupid. Actually, this means you're honest. It's a good thing.

You are stupid (for calling security over the money, not for not taking the money).

$4 is not that big of a deal.

I would have taken it if nobody was around, if I saw someone panicking and searching around, I'd ask him/her if they lost it and give it back

relax.. you learn from mistakes

Nah you aren't stupid. You reminded me of what my cousin did. We were in the mall and an older couple walked by us and dropped $1...yes $1. Anyways he picked it up, turned around, and told them "Excuse me. You dropped this." You could tell by the look on their face they were a bit surprised, but also had the "really" look.

If I were the one to lose some bills 1's 5's etc. I would blame myself for not paying attention to my own money so if I did lose that money I wouldn't blame the other person to take it. It doesn't make you a bad person for picking up random money on the ground especially if there was no one around. Now if it were someone literally JUST dropped it and you ran over and picked it up while they were going for it then yes that is wrong.

So nope, you are not stupid just you trying to be nice.
