If it's any consoltation. If you're stupid enough, you don't question your stupidity.

as for the money. anyone could claim it theirs, without a wallet or so.
although i have taken money that wasn't mine(i once paid 100 dkk(around 20usd) and got 300 dkk back in change, this was mcdonalds so didn't mind taking since they aren't a small bussines), and if nobody was looking i would probably pick up money on the street.

No it doesn't make you stupid at all. It makes you honest. And really there are no wrong answers here. In the end you have to do what feels right for you. You're the one who has to live with yourself and you're the one who has to sleep well at night so don't worry about what others would do or wouldn't do. In the end all that matters is you did what felt right for you.

And as far as it being four dollars, yeah it sucks to lose any amount of money but it's not the same as 400 dollars which could be someone's bill money or vacation money or their only funds to put down on a used vehicle so they can go to work or something. Nobody cares too much about four dollars unless it was a kid's allowance which it could have been. You never know. In the end you did the right thing for you and that's all that matters.

Um. It's 4$ dude. I would take it. If people are that careless with their money that's their own fault, even if it was 100$ or more. So by caring about those 4$ you wasted probably 15 minutes of your time by trying to supposedly do the right thing.

If I lost my wallet, which I have before, and I had money in it. After maybe like a day later this woman called saying that she found my wallet, but all my cards and info were cut up, but she said that she saved the pieces, She was a saint for doing that, because to this day my Sin card is still being held together with tape no word of a lie. Of course I didn't accuse her for taking the money, because I knew someone else took it, but even if she didn't touch the money I would have given her a good amount of it for what she did.

The point is. If i were to drop my money, I would only blame myself and move on, I'm not expecting some hero to come and save me for my mistakes. I don't care if you found 100$ just take it, the universe has a way with dealing with every choice you make, you are not in the wrong, or in the right, opportunities will pass you by so you take them.

I wouldn't have called security over it, but to each their own. I don't think you're stupid for making the decision to not take someone's money. I don't know what I'd do about $4, but I've given back plenty of wallets, cards, etc. If I can catch up to the person who dropped money I give it back.

That said, when I lose money I don't assume someone will bring it back to me, so I never go looking for it.

I would hand it in to proper authorities. Probably someone needs it for bus fare. Bus fare nowadays is worth $2.
Or someone only has a few bucks to feed themselves lunch/dinner.
I survived middle school and high school with a dollar everyday. So yea.
Or...
Based on society nowadays and gadgets, someone is probably doing some of this so called "social experiment," has a hidden camera nearby and is ready to upload to Youtube or WSHH. They spent $4 for the exchange of million views on their video [with ads]. $$$ profit
So yea. I better hand it in. They might not even blur my gorgeous face when it hits Youtube. The shame.

or probably I'm just a good person with a conflicting username. Who knows.

$4???

I would have pocketed it and kept walking. It's not a large enough amount for me worry about, either finding or losing. Anything $20 and under is pretty trivial, not worth the effort of reporting even if I was the one who lost the money.

idk I probably would have grabbed it or passed it by. If you did grab who knows maybe karma would have got you, it did me in a way.

So like one day I just happened across this dank green "bag of candy" was excited cause I had no candy you know. I was wishing there'd be something in it and sure enough there was, still good and looked untouched.

So about a year later I'm drunk walking down the road and it was decently cold, wind blowing, grabbed my gloves out of my pocket only to drop about the same amount of candy I had once found.

What was once lost was found by another, only for the same amount to be lost by the one who found it.

While I wouldn't have gone so far as to call somebody, I too wouldn't have taken it. I don't have anything to do with the money, and it's not mine for the taking. The universe never gives out freebies anyways >_> It was obviously some sort of clever trap.

I think you did the right thing overall, me personally its just 4 bucks. I would've taken it and if I dropped 4 bucks I wouldn't expect to find them or someone to return them back to me.

That's quite a silly reason to not accept fortune when it comes your way.

I honestly didn't know what else to do when I found it... I called security because I don't even know if there is a lost and found or where. But it's great to hear everyone's opinions, I see how most of them are justified! I just wish I was there when someone dropped it, otherwise it would've been so much easier just to give it back to someone. But I have 2 jobs, so I honestly didn't need the $4

So basically, here's the situation. I was walking back to my dorm and I found $4 on the sidewalk, all $1 bills. Now, I could've taken it, but I felt dirty. Even though it was only $4. Now, I proceed to call the security office and the guy that answered seemed super annoyed when I called (which I would be too) but I didn't want to take it. I didn't want anyone else to take it. Who knows how long it was there... I saw some people pass by and no one else was taking it.

Now if it were $400, holy crap what a big deal! I still wouldn't take it and would do the same thing I did for the $4. The guy came and picked it up (still with an annoyed tone of voice to match his now annoyed face), and said he'd put it in the lost and found. But he could take that money... but I didn't I guess is the important thing.

So the question is... am I stupid? Should I have taken it? Left it there? What would you do in this situation? Maybe I could've taken it and spent it on someone else to be nice? But again, that could've been someone's lunch money or something.

I wouldn't do the same for coins though... but otherwise to me money is money. If it's a bill of any kind and there's a lot of them, I'm turning it in. But when I walked in the building, a girl asked me what happened and she said she would've done the same thing. So HAH! At least one person is on my side!

You did the right thing. You're not stupid at all. Your're awesome!
