So I'll keep this short and simple since its my birthday and i want to bet back to eating cake and decorating the pinata.
As we all know in today's entertainment women are portrayed as these brain-dead abominations whose only purpose is to supply eye candy for the viewers (well not all but many). many of us dont believe that all woman are like this but alot of us draw prejudices from watching it.

My question to men is do you buy into this and view woman differently due to the media?

And for women do you become cynical and blame men for thier chauvinism or do you accept it and become happy and blissful?

I don't think that of women. (correction. "most women") But I prefer watching a hot girl (eye-candy) on television since I'm watching television for entertainment. I'm not watching TV to see hot guys. I think the same goes for women watching TV. They want hot guys on television. I mean almost every girl in CR gets their nipples hard over picture perfect drama actors or even anime guys.

The thing is that television and entertainment caters to our enjoyment and those are some things that we love to see. Perhaps, I do get some influence when watching television but I don't take television entertainment seriously. And people should be responsible over their own thoughts too. And it's not that I'm fortunate enough to have parents who taught me these things. I've learned all on my own on things we should be aware of or think over.

i doubt you would notice if you viewed women differently due to media, because most would be watching media from a young age. so unless you just started watching things that displayed women in that way, you shouldnt be able to tell if it has changed your view on women

I don't buy it. Simply because most of those 'beauties' instantly become role models for most women outside t.v. Teenagers to be precise, they tend to go into diets, plastic surgeries, unhappy with themselves, etc. Men are, of course we are, one of the causes of this. It is popular in shows, commercials, etc, to display women who are 'fit' as models, beauties, etc, leaving the res in the shadows. There is not something as 'equal treatment' for women by the media, nowadays.

the biggest thing about the media is that so many people just dress up for the camera. Most of these women are portrayed entirely different than they are, by their own choice. Some of them try to look like you described to get themselves more press coverage or something to that effect.

Mmm yeah. Men, just because you see guys who sweetalk girls in movies/dramas and get in between their legs the next day doesn't necessarily mean that it would happen to you too =[

Also, there's the stupid cliche where the girl is the one who gets saved and pampered, c'mon we're not THAT useless...

I would like to say that most main female heroines in the various media (I'm mainly talking about movies and television dramas/soap operas/etc.) are smart/have some degree of intellegence, good-looking and sassy, and witty and clever enough to work their way out of every situation.

Sadly, this just isn't so. I agree that most women in the media are generally portrayed as these beautiful zombies: they are pretty, yes, but have no wit, no significant sign of any intelligence or will-power, and generally just plain air-headed. The only reason they exist is to give the good-looking intelligent witty hero someone to rescue in an over-dramatized over-exaggerated drastic situation.

And it isn't just in American media. I am strongly convinced that that anime is a huge offender of this as well.

As an intelligent, educated, and independent woman with strong critical opinions, I am quite offended by the media's portrayal of women as mostly these air-headed brain-dead ditzy figures who can't take care of themselves and always need someone to either rescue them or wait on them hand and foot. And they don't know how to do anything but whine and complain!! Quite frankly, it disgusts me. >.<;; These portrayals give women everywhere a bad name, because they are largely, in my opinion, sexist stereotypes.

Yes there are a few who are the opposite and are actually, even if weak, still strong well-rounded and thus likable characters, but there are so very few... -_-;;

Lawl agreed about the anime bit because ALL women in anime have big boobs and an hourglass figure -.-

But I think it's okay to me because that's how I like it. I really can't stand 'feminism', it's just so ..wrong. There's nothing wrong with guys coming to help a girl out. It makes my day when a very gentlemanly friend of mine offers to help me hold some of my things because I'm juggling with too many things in my hands. Or when a boy helps keep the door open for you. But feminists think it's sexist just by doing that <_<

Though the whole brainless dumb bimbo represented in the media is just too stupid, girls are smarter than boys, it's a fact no but really, somehow women are more popular and talked about when they act all helpless in shows.

It seems like women as a whole are going through some sort of mass puberty, probably brought on by women's sufferage and rights. It's like the slutty rebellious teenage girl revolution stage for the entire female side of the species right now. Just give it a few more years. We'll settle down and cover up.

Women who let this influence them are to blame. They make this problem. As a woman I can tell you that, as long as you don't care and just want to be yourself, it isn't a problem at all that the media shows women as brainless bimbos. I think all women who try to be like the women they see on tv just have very low self-esteem. It's a pity, but I don't really care. It's their own fault, and their own problem.

I like myself the way I am, and people like me that way too. I wouldn't want friends, or a guy, who likes me because I dress slutty and say dense things. So people who are influenced by the media won't really be the kind of people I like. So it's not a problem at all.

I don't believe that normal smart girls let the media influence them. Trying to be like someone on tv is already a dumb thing to do.

Oh well. I just don't see there's a problem at all.

However the media portrays them we all know what they are like anyway I mean I don't know anyone who has never met a real girl in person before, do you?

Lawl~
I personally don't give a shit, but women shouldn't wonder if they are only taken as sex objects....I mean they make commercials for shoes with naked women and other stuff which doesn't really relate to the naked body of a female...D: It is somehow sad that the vids and commercials lost its originality....Every single shit is filled with almost naked women...Well in the end I don't give a shit..I'm not much into RnB and commercials...Lawl~
