Is Torture Ever Justified As A Punishment By Any Party?
Posted 2/2/16
Reason why I ask this question is that Kirito blatantly tortured an obviously guilty party by bisecting him numerous times. Do you believe Kirito had every right to torture the guy?

I understand the anger and rage that can make people lose control and go overboard like that in extreme circumstances, but I don't think it's right.

If I were to do that I think I'd feel disgusted with myself afterward and remorseful.

Punishment isn't justified because it's not a teaching tool, it's a revenge tool.

If someone does something wrong, they should be taught why they are wrong and how they should behave so that they can be a productive member of society.

If some one is incapable of being decent, they should be destroyed for the greater good.

Not sure about Kirito as it's a fictional character designed specifically for entertainment.

Personally think torture as punishment is an awful thing but then again, I've also never been placed in a situation where it might be necessary? I can't even imagine how CIA or parties of this nature get through it. Agree with Lorreen though. I think I would suffer a great deal of remorse too.

Kirito is a disturbing example, since a great deal of people praise his actions, which perturbs me greatly that kids could be so influenced by the story's designation of who the "good guy" is that they think any action said good guy take is of the highest morality. In essence, the story uses a somewhat underhanded way of presenting Kirito as a good guy instead of showing why he should be the good guy.

For example, many people dislike Spongebob for the Squidward torture porns, where the whole universe seems to be against Squidward. However, most of the time Squidward is the character you SYMPATHIZE with because most of the time he didn't do anything wrong unlike the earlier seasons, however, due to his status as designated "bad guy", he gets the brunt of the worst punishments bikini bottom has to offer.

I believe in eye for an eye. You shoot someone in the face, then be prepared to be shot right back.

So in your opinion, it's okay to torture people as a punishment?

Yes. You can't just let someone go to jail after raping or murdering 20 innocent individuals. But that's just my opinion.
