Let me know if a thread like this one exist or not.
Thanks a bunches.

My Turn:

I'm sure there are people we noticed on the internet or in real life say something that makes them come across as stupid. But is that person really stupid or just having a dumb moment. What are your views on this? Have you ever met someone you considered very stupid or was simply having a dumb moment?

Enjoy!!!

Anything human is subject to change. We can be brilliant 1 day and sucky the next. Thoughts and opinions are flexible. They can be based on something concrete or based on nothing. It will never be a perfect world where logic, such that it is, dictates protocol or behavior. For now the internet gives one an opportunity to have id dictate what one posts rather than perpetually have ego or superego present at the helm. It's freeing. You may not like what he/ she / it / they post, that's your prerogative. However, until free speech is eliminated and/or micromanaged into extinction or oblivion it's a condition you'll have to either learn to tolerate, forgive, or ignore.

Thanks for giving an example of the dumb moment OP was talking about. You're a gem.

I've had plenty of dumb moments that looking back on make me want to dig myself a hole and hide there for a few years. It happens to everyone, and if they're unfortunate enough to have an internet connection at the time...well...

You probably don't actually become stupid for saying something stupid, but some people will never let those moments go and judge you based on your slip ups.

We've all probably had those moments where we think, "Shit, I shouldn't have said that." Or we talked about something we didn't know much if anything about and yeah, probably looked kinda dumb to some people. That's just how it is sometimes. Particularly if you tend to say anything that crosses your mind. It's not the worst thing though. It's honest and sharing.

I'm the kind of person that usually doesn't speak much unless it's something I've looked in to or rather familiar with. It's not always the best approach though. Speaking up even when you're ignorant could lead to someone teaching you and others something useful.

Edit: Just because you've done something stupid doesn't mean people won't like you. Some people might like you more! It's disarming, approachable, and for better or worse sometimes rather memorable.

Here is an example:

Teresa knows there are over one hundred countries on earth. Johnny thinks that Teresa is wrong for some reason because they aren't over one hundred countries there are only seven on earth. Johnny goes to correct Teresa but gets glared at by her and himself corrected.

Is Johnny having a dumb moment or just plain dumb?

I don't think so because everyone makes mistakes and no one knows everything. But, if you (general you) have mostly dumb moments, well...

Some people have a tendency to say whatever thought flies through their mind without even thinking about it. Sometimes it's hilarious.
Well frequency is usually important in discerning these things, but that is quite the example.
If I could find a way to tell myself that person thought about this seriously, didn't just crawl out of the woods after many years, wasn't suffering some mental illness, and went to compulsory education as a kid. Yes, that person seems willfully ignorant and/or rather stupid.

Edit: I just realized the confusion. Maybe it's something about text that gives certainty to words like "countries" . I hope.
