What gets you interested in a new series?
What's that tipping point where you decide, "Yepp, I'm definitely gonna pick this up."

Do you like mecha anime (for example) and try out each series in that genre, fishing for good ones?
Do you look forward to reboots (Sailor Moon, etc.), hoping to recapture that nostalgia?
Do you go based on what others are hyped about, thinking it must be good?
Do you watch PVs or keep track of announcements, planning which shows to follow?
Do you like lolis, drifting toward shows that promise cute ones?

What convinces you to watch a show?

Plot

But, in seriousness I can't really say. My tastes run the full gamut. I try just about everything. But, honestly, the first thing that grabs me is art style and music/sound design. So pvs and such are important to me and picking up a series.

I first look at the anime poster and see what kind of art or design the anime is.
If it doesn't look appealing judging by the art from the poster or pics, I don't think I would even start it.

Well if its a brand new anime and the first episode just came out i will watch it and get a base idea of the anime, if i liked it ill continue watching it and if i didn't like it ill watch next one just to confirm not liking it.

Now if its an anime that's already out ill look at the anime cover picture, read the description and read others people reviews and go from there.

Now obviously if the genre is one that i like then i will be more compelled to watch it for instance if its a loli, harem, fantasy, and like romance/comedy these are some genres that i am really interested in and will watch them or try them out without much hesitation.

But i seem to like most animes as long as they are a good anime.

I just look at it and if its interesting looking then I'll check it out

and if It's not that great then I'll still watch it all the way just not enjoy it as much.

The art initially gets me interested. If I don't find the art style appealing or at least interesting, I find it extremely tough to even give a series a shot. After that, I check the synopsis or sort of elevator pitch that gets released usually fairly early on. That's often the real deal breaker for me. Even if I like the art style, if the series is pitched as basically the same stupid harem (one dude, possibly with latent super powers just happens to end up surrounded by sexy ladies.. what's going to happen next? :O) or typical battle shounen then that's basically game over for me in 99% of cases.

If I like the art style and the synopsis doesn't turn me away, I'm willing to give almost anything a shot at least for a few episodes.

I read the synopsis. From that, I take a guess as to which show can press my buttons. Sometimes I have to make a list, thin down the candidates then it's off to figuring out which legal streaming service will offer it.

Sometimes my selection is entirely based on the studio putting it out - if it's something by KyoAni, Shaft, A-1 or Madhouse, it's likely that I'll pick it up.

Sometimes it's the cute art.

And sometimes, well, it's because I hear other people talk about it so much that my curiosity must be fed.

Yeah, I think that's about it.

Characters are the most important factor. I need to identify and like the characters upfront for me to care about the series. Shows like Bakemonogatari do characters super well. And some shows like Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash fall flat on their face with their cast.

1: "Does it look interesting / entertaining?"
2: "Does it have an appealing art style?"
3: "Does it have a good concept?"
4: "Was it made by a studio / director I like?"
5: "Is it an adaptation of something I like?"
6: "Has anyone recommended it to me?"

I suppose if the plot intrigues me is the easiest answer.

At the start of each season, I watch every new show blind. No synopsis or previous knowledge. I give most series 2-3 episodes. What makes me continue watching are the characters. If the characters are fun or interesting, then I'll stick with it even if other elements are not sub-par.
