Post Reply What are your views/opinions on people pleasing?

Like everything in life, you need a balance. It's not good for you if you're constantly walking on eggshells or have the inability to think about yourself and putting yourself over others in situations that call for it.

I have been a people pleaser a lot of my life and censored myself to avoid offending people and starting arguments. I am honestly really tired of it, mainly since others don't do the same.

With the SJW boom, it's become harder and harder to not offend people, and I really want to call people out on the stupid shit they think makes sense (because they haven't spent more than 2 thoughts on their ideas), so I am slowly starting to censor myself less (i.e. become less of a people pleaser).

The word No is your friend. I don't think it's healthy to always say yes or to have to ever do things you really don't want to do. If the people are your true friends then they'll understand if you don't feel like helping them or doing whatever. Some times you just have to say no for your own peace of mind. As far as conversations go then that's a little more tricky but you can be honest without being a jerk. I'd rather know if I have a freaking bugger hanging out of my nose than not lol.

There you go. You don't want to take it to the opposite extreme and be a jerk or anything. You don't have to call out everyone on all the moronic things they say but neither do you have to agree. Just treat it like it's a debate class and give your opposing views without being mean. If they can't accept it then they're really not the sort of people you want to be talking with anyway. I wouldn't tell them they're a complete idiot but instead tell them why you disagree and then share your own views on whatever the subject is and who knows you might get them to thinking on it a bit more and end up having a really good conversation or even change someone's point of view a bit. If nothing else you should always just be yourself.

I only please the people that I feel like I want to please.

I like making people happy and making them laugh, but I also am not remotely afraid of offending them.
