I have made my closest friends not from highschool or college as neither stuck around.

I made my closest friends from videogaming ;)

I have no contacts in college and never will because i hate socializing and avoid it like the plague.

I will be able to get the job i want without needing to know the people as i will have the skills to do the job.

People put way to much emphasis on networking and friendships from college etc and expect everyones experience to be the same when each persons can be very different.

I myself try to cut socializing out of my life as much as i can :D

I agree and disagree with you at the same time. Socializing is up to the individual and if some will bond with other through college or work, other will socialize through internet, forum, video-games.

This part however is unfortunately wrong, i don't know which job you are looking for but job are no longer granted solely on skill. Motivation, experience, AND contact are important to land a job. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that you don't need skill to work but if you rely only on your abilities then you might not be hired.

Also you can't entirely cut out socialization, because human are inherently social beast. You can't live without contact with other. It's not that i don't understand you, cause i've known my faire share of disapointment and i have stopped approaching people because there is too much hypocrite person but i won't reject someone who come to talk to me.

I'm looking to become a programmer.

Also we may be social beasts but those with my type of brain (autistic) by default HATE socialization it does the opposite to us then what it does for normal people (for normal people it revitalises them and they need it for us it drains us and we need VERY little) (we are regarded as NOT social creatures which is true and false)

I don't communicate unless i need to because i'm tired already and hardly get through the day already without falling asleep socializing just makes me sleepier and feel depressed.

but you have to in this society....sadly.

My retirement dream is to actually lock myself away and get my food and stuff delivered and live on my own in solitude alone by myself and a computer.

The only socialization i "NEED" i can get from a computer and infact it's alot easier to convey messages on a computer then it is in real life since i cannot read or use body language (people can't read mine since i use very little)

Honestly i doubt i will get a job because i hate socialization and i don't look people in the eyes when i'm talking as i scan details around me.
So i'm going to try make my own job or just stay on the disability pension for life ...(i hope not)

I network and socialize (i don't make small talk much) and i HATE IT if i had one wish i would wish to not need socialization and to be able to cut it out completely and live on my own happily ......sadly reality is it's not like that :)

I'm not an expert but programmer along with other works which are related to internet need less connection than other... When you do have skill that is. I mean, you just have to create many website / software (depending on what you are programming) and show those to your "future" boss. Also you should be able to promote yourself through internet, the only advice i can offer is don't hesitate to provide your skills to other because the more work you will have to show the more likely you will be hired. So i don't think that you will end up unemployed or living off a pension and i would cheer on you if you ever need it.

I agree lol. I have no idea how I am going to approach this when I have kids. I was thinking maybe just start them off with a limited plan so that they could develop good habits from the start, but on the same token I kind of side with the parents that don't want their kid to not at least have a phone just in case.

I wouldn't become one of those parents that just gives their kid a phone so they stfu and leave them alone. I know what that feels like as a kid.

I don't know either . I think parents who really want their children to experience that they can have fun (mostly) without modern technology and that there is a lot of interesting stuff out there will always find a way. It might get harder in the future but it will always possible. I wouldn't worry too much about it right now.

But, yes,it's definitley easier for parents to avoid "real" parenting with that huge amount of portabel, entertaining technology then it was 20 or 30 years ago and I'm a little bit afraid that more than few will take the easy way(but that's nothing I know for sure).

People should only blame themselves for their lack of social skills/involvement in person. Technology is convenient but using it as an excuse is nothing more than a cop out.

Good luck convincing those same ones there is a social life outside of facebook. If you only saw what I have been seeing. It was not like this at all back when I was in high school.

Oh I know. I just find it pathetic really. Kids can't make eye contact or speak properly these days even when it matters. When I interview some of these kids fresh out of college it's like talking to a middle school kid sometimes. They'll learn eventually how the real world works outside of a monitor screen.

Technology simply made my reclusive lifestyle easier, but it didn't create it in my case.

Just imagine, with online shopping, I hardly ever have to leave the house.

I think technology made communication different, not necessarily less.

If it becomes normal for young people to choose not to have social skills, where does that leave people with actual psychological problems that prevent them from functioning normally around other people?

Yes to a degree
while no for not helping the majority out and keeping the minor that wants to use online stuff in general to better use.

but I wish there could be more control online as many use the online stuff or what they get "teached" through it, so they act in ways that wouldn't really be there before (or thoughts that could not come, unless it was brought to you... thanks twitter such an amazing tool to create a great social standing and behavior/thoughts)

At one point it was books that caused unsocializing, then music, and now phones and/or videogames. Point is it will only get worse so be thankful for where we are at now.

This was not my college experience. I found most people to be quite outgoing and invested in meeting new people. While many certainly were on devices a lot, that did not stop them from interacting with others and hanging with friends. I notice the trend of devices taking the place of human interaction moreso outside of school to be honest.
