Of course they do, but now people are lazy and accept that they are fat so they don't have to better themselves. If you are feeling out of shape or unhealthy, that's only creating more problems for yourself along the road.

I never understood fat pride. Why take pride in being unhealthy? And saying that being healthy is wrong, boggles the mind.

youd be suprised at how much beauty comes from the inside. no one want to date an evil barbie, no matter how sexy or pretty she is.

I'm sure nobody wants to date a person that's not sexy, too. They all keep thinking "I want a person that's sexy both inside and on the outside".

well, im not going to deny that. tho the people who insist on sexy on the outside are the kind you want to stay away from. they think short term. a relationship where physical looks are that important wont last long. besides, if some one really loves you, their ideas of what is attractive generally change to suit you. if they date based soley on looks, then they proably are marriage/LTR material.

well, thats been my experiance anyways.

The factors depend on where you live too.

From my experience, in Thailand, people cared very much of being fat or not. They care about what food they eat and are aware of what's fattening.

Currently living in the Midwest in United States, it seems that the concern of other people being fat is very low. I'm not talking about self-esteem. The view of others as fat is neutral around here. It's not disgusting or hateful. They just accept people for who they are regardless of size.

I haven't live in crowded places like California or Florida, so I cannot say for sure in those places.

I exercise and watch my diet so as to have the best body I can. I was 300lbs way back when and am down to 170lbs now. It's good to have a positive goal and fat deposits are bad for your health.

(Im really not trying to act better than others) I really care about being thin and being a proper shape because not only it makes me feel good but I want other people to feel good when I'm around, especially girls who have a hard time with their confidence, like they think they dont deserve being around an attractive guy, and especially those who with their situations at school or whatever, they're deprived of any affection.

Im reeeaalllyy not trying be be like "Oh I'm so beautiful!", it's kinda really how I think. >.<

OP:

Keep in mind that fat being attractive or not is a CULTURAL thing.

During the Dark Ages in Europe, being fat was considered attractive! Why? Because it meant one could afford to buy enough food to eat in excess. Being skinny was the norm because most people were starving and poor.

Nerds used to be made fun of, UNTIL Bill Gates became famous for being the richest man in the world some time in the late 80s, early 90s. Now, nerds are attractive--because of their high earning power.

Nowadays, being fat is very easy. It is actually harder to be thin for three big reasons: 1) healthy food is more expensive than junk food due to sugar and corn subsidies, 2) the poor have much easier access to junk food through the EBT/SNAP welfare programs (stores that take EBT/SNAP don't sell healthy foods), and 3) gym memberships are expensive and exercise is time-consuming. Thus, if you go to Fashion Island Mall in Newport Beach, you see all these super-slim and toned housewives of Orange County--their husbands make the money for them to eat well, exercise, and get cosmetic surgery.

So being thin is a status symbol now and is more attractive than being fat. Things have flipped around compared to the Dark Ages, and it all has to do with income/luxury. Thus this is a cultural value and not biological: who looks more wealthy? If it were biological, then we would choose the healthiest-looking mate, not the wealthiest.

I hope you're right. Then even someone as ugly as me has a chance at true happiness.

I'm not fat by any means, so I personally don't care. I know a lot of people are self conscious about it though because off the "norms" that people have placed on each other.

The world is full of strange people. I'm fat and I don't even approve of fat pride.

I have a perfect body. I used to be super fat and hated myself and the way I looked. Then I became a super health freak and worked out 2-3 times a day, every day, and now I am super slim and 0 body fat.

that doesn't sound that healthy..
depends on how slim you are if its really much then it could be visually "perfect" dunno how many likes that for a ongoing deal if thats something you are looking for.

well for me I like a mother like figure that is healthy enough and is "perfect" as a "whole".

I've always been overweight, and between 2003 and 2008 I was fat.
Then I had to sell my car to save money, and bought a bicycle to get to and from work.
That was when the kilos started melting off.

2 years ago, I started watching Yowamushi Pedal and bought a road racer. Now I'm almost down to a "normal" figure, and the risk of getting any of my father's heart diseases is almost 0.

Thanks anime, for saving my life!
