1. Nerds are just smart people. (some don't even watch anime)

2.Geeks same as no.1 ^^

3.Some people just like to watch anime because of the art. (people aren't always into reality TV shows now a days)

4.You'd be surprised who watched anime in your high school (college).

5.Americans enjoy anime not because we're a free country but free spirited, we enjoy a lot of things!.

Latin American here.
We love anime too, and for the same reasons.

Honestly, Western Animation has been reduced to two types of shows: comedies (Family Guy, Simpsons, etc.) and superhero shows (Justice League, Batman, etc.). While some of it is good, it lacks a lot of the variety of topics anime covers which is probably one of the main reasons I enjoy it so much.

Only some anime is (the more similar it seems to American entertainment, the more popular it is). Most Americans and other Westerners don't like anime as a whole, even if they call themselves "anime fans." There are too many cultural differences between Japan and the West, especially the US.

Hard to say why anime appealed to me, but a friend in Highschool got me hooked on it after lending me a couple of (VHS) fansubs of a couple of series (i.e. Dragonball, Ranma 1/2). My interest exploded after the internet really took off.

I love animation, Eastern and Western, and I love good stories with good messages, morality, characters, music, writing, etc. I don't care if it's from the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, wherever. If it's good, I want it it.

Because most American cartoons stopped being awesome in the 90s.
There were like what 3 that came out in the last 6 years that were awesome.

Anime has been awesome way longer and continues to be awesome.

1. It is something different.

2. It is a fun escape.

Although 1 and 2 are wearing thin, the more I see, since patterns tend to repeat, just like in American media.

But, for now, it is still 1 and 2.

Oh, also, because the Playstation 4 aps for Crunchyroll and Funimation are much cheaper than cable!

Most Japanese don't like all or any anime either, to be fair.

Not the same thing, and has nothing to do with what we're talking about.
