If you had an argument with someone you care about and you want to apologise, how do you go about doing it?

Is there a better way than just saying sorry? OR Is the word 'sorry' enough?

"I'm sorry for doing X to you. I was wrong."

Just apologize with sincerity.

What if you're sincerely not sorry?

Then you never believed you were wrong and so you would not take the action to apologize in the first place.

That's inaccurate. Apologies are perfect tools made with the sole purpose of tricking others.

I do agree, sometimes people say sorry for every thing to make themselves seem more polite, when it's just annoying.

However, words have more than one purpose, you can use them for a variety of purposes. Depending on the tone, it can become a totally different meaning, for instance, a sarcastic apology.

well i for one belive words are worthless. saying sorry is what you do when your not willing to do anything else.
actions speak louder than word. try a gift with an 'im sorry'.

Try a sincere apology and admitting that you were wrong. The point is getting them to believe you. For some, sorry is enough while for others it's meaningless if you can't show that you really mean it.

is it mutual?
if not, then an apology doesn't mean anything to them.

Apologize and hug them.

+tears. What most important is sincerity.

Just tell them you're sorry and tell them why you're sorry. Apologizing is fine on it's own but it's also nice to explain why you're sorry and like the poster above me (MelodyXXnur) said, give them a hug also. Never underestimate the power of a good hug.

You'd think tears come after sincerity...

Thanks for the lecture, Prof Alligator.
