This would be something fun: Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame getting involved in Elfen Lied.

I like that directors work, but I don't think a lot of people outside of anime fandom are familiar with "Elfen Lied". I do like that show, although its not for everyone and Hollywood would probably have to tone it down to get a PG-13.

Would it be worse than Chappie?

(Or would we all try to convince ourselves we live in an alternate universe where Blomkamp never made another movie after District 9? )

Hmm... Elfen Lied done by Hollywood? When's the last time they've made a violent offensive movie hit big without it being based on a foreign IP?

A good portion of the show's draw is emotional manipulative story telling over the (lots of expletives) situations. Though I have to admit I mostly enjoyed it. If they tried to PG-13 it, the show would become more distorted and tamed than the main character's traumatized mind. (I was going to relate it to the treatment of a certain runaway, but I might end up banned.) They need to bring back the R-rated thriller model or not even consider touching this one.

On a side note, the show's soundtrack was amazing and probably the best thing of it.

Nana wants you to leave her Papa alone.

@rabbitofcaerbann: well, Blomkamp is somewhat a fan of Appleseed, which could explain why he based off Chappie's design off Briareos. Also, Neill's movies aren't for everyone either (pretty damn violent)

@Ejanss: what you want something worse than Chappie?

@Shenseiken: I would prefer he do it as a miniseries on a premium channel like Starz or on Amazon or Netflix than make a movie out of it (I would like to see him tackle television). That way it wouldn't be whitewashed and would likely have a better chance at succeeding. Also, Id like to see the miniseries not adapt directly from the manga but instead focus on expanding the universe, including a prequel that would flesh out the diclonii more than what the manga did and show that they're not mass murdering sociopaths who inherently hate humans (Nana isn't enough), and one that would focus on the Diclonius War (hello The Walking Dead)

I do remember Starz tried to do a miniseries based on the 2001 anime Noir and Guillermo Del Toro was going to be involved but the project has since been on hold and is likely cancelled at this point.

@Freddy96NO: what's that Fairy Tail picture supposed to be

He made another movie? I thought it was just D9, Elysium and that Halo short

If he's not writing it then yes, but I think he'd be more of a fit for like Ghost in a Shell or some cyberpunk one because he knows how to make and direct real looking CGI for cheap. His stories are.....eh when he's writing them so he should just focus on directing.

Is the GITS movie still a go? He would be great for it.

He also has a left leaning political view that can be off putting for the FOX News crowd. But he is an ambitious director for the types of budgets he uses.

It is, Scarlet Johansson is the main girl, and it's directed by Rupert Sanders who has really only done one other film which is Snow White and the Huntsman. And they casted Micheal Pitt as Laughing Man.....so that should tell you how just how "well" this film will go.

Although I am surprised at the writers of the film. They wrote Straight outta Compton and Rise of the Planet of the Apes which I found to be really good.....but still not a silver lining for me.

The last two POTA movies were pretty good, much better than the Tim Burton remake (not saying it was terrible, but it was disappointing). Also, I'd like to see Blomkamp take a shot at "Dune". The David Lynch version was a train wreak. But then again, I'm not a Lynch hater ("Blue Velvet" and "Twin Peaks" I'm a big fan of).
